Spent most of my life at sea but have been interested in timber work since I was a kid, brother and father are/were wooden boat builders and I built the wife and my first home when I was 25 while we lived in the shed. We finished it and owned it outright within 3 years and had two babies in the meantime. I still say it was the best thing the bank ever did for me was to refuse to give me a mortgage.
We have a property on the Cape now which is heavily timbered and a lot of it has come down in a recent cyclone so I am milling it and building furniture out of some of it but a lot of it is incredibly hard- ironwood and black wattle (the up north type) too hard and heavy for furniture but we've got some cedar's,paper bark and quandong down that I'm beating the termites to, recently made some chairs for a friends bush wedding which were really good.
Great forum and I hope I can contribute occasionally if I can get in front of a computer now and then that's got internet (and electricity)
