I don’t use timber stain very often, however I have a small job to do which will require using a stain under Wattyl Stylewood (which is precatalyzed lacquer). Can anyone please tell me which timber stains THEY HAVE RELIABLY USED under precat.

I only need a small can and it doesn’t need to be sprayed. The recommended stains are only available in 4litres.

Cheers

Have not used it under lacquer, that being said, I have had good success using FW Prooftint which is a metho based stain, comes in many colours, easily reduced in intensity using a reducer and colours the wood without obscuring the grain. As it doesn't use the same solvent as the finish it "should" work fine.

As with all things we do, if unsure do a test on similar or scrap pieces rather than experiment on the actual task. The cost is minimal if you get what you want.

Hope it helps you out.
