Hi,
this is one of my next projects and I'm looking for guidance. I'm thinking of a light sand using Festool rotary sander 150/5 on the top only then matching stain followed by Feast and Watson Wipe On Poly all over (handles removed of course).

You will probably find the stains on the top will cause you some grief.
Best of luck.

I refurbed one for a entertainment unit. Came up a treat. The old veneer is thicker than modern stuff so you might be able to sand out the water rings.
I frenched polished mine after sanding it wright back starting with 120g. Good luck.

Wet sanding from 600g to 2500g then some micro mesh to 12000g then buffing. yeah a bit of work involved.
