Good and cheap don't really go together I use a Cabots natural decking oil while the neighbour uses an equivalent Wattyl product.

Last did the deck 18 months ago and it is about to be re done in the next couple of days. Seems to hold up pretty well but I
probably should do it every 12 months.

When you are oiling your deck, consider this:

- How much did you spend on the timber initially?
- How much will it cost you to replace it when the cheap product shags out and the stains or rot set in?

That's why it pays to use the good product form the outset.

Sikkens Cetol is one of the better decking oils out there and it costs. But then again, you're also not going to have to refresh it anywhere near as often and it's going to do a better job while it's there.

EDIT: sorry, I also saw that you said you have to cover every 3 months - I assume you mean re-apply your current oil? That's probably a symptom of using cheap oils - they break down fast. Only issue is, now you have to work out if you can just overcoat it with a better one or if you have to sand back and start again.
