Help a newbee

I have been told that a good wood finish made up of 2parts Gum Turpentine and 1 part Raw Linseed Oil
Can someone who may have used it enlighten me on the qualities of this finish
I do like at semi-gloss finish .Would this be appropriate?
Someone gave me a 'Lanotec' product but I thought it smelt like a sheep

Welcome to the forum.

I've heard of that for finishing but have never used it - not my style.

What are you trying to finish?
What sort of application/use will the item get?
What's the timber?

Then I'll try and give you some clues - mind you, ubeaut - the hosts, have excellent finishes for most applications :D and they have an excellent publication on the very art :D

Have I earned my brownie points yet?????

This subject has been covered before, a couple of times.

I can't find the link in a hurry but there are LOTS of warnings about using Gum Turpentine.

You can make up a similar brew using regular turps & it works just as good.

What are you putting it on?

It won't set hard & it will need regular maintenance.

The timber is a small piece of I think Yellow Pine .... can only be used for a small candle holder or similar but it has a nice grain
I thought that this concoction may highlight the grain and not make it too dark


Ron, I hope you don't mind, I've quoted part of your PM out here so others may learn from the answers you get as well.

Any Wood Oil at all will do the job.
You should be able to buy something in the Paint Section of your local Hardware shop in a small tin/bottle.
A lot of them will set in the tin once they are exposed to air but the Turps/Linseed brew can be made as you go so won't be a problem to store.

Ive made that finish with standard turpentine myself,brings out the color in oak nicely. Doesnt give much protection,just looks pretty.
