Hey Brian, and welcome mate.
Haven't seen a lot regarding chainsaws, but I reckon if you post the same enquiry over in 'Hand Tools - Powered' forum you might get a few responses.
Where's Myrniong by the way?

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum "Brian".
There are a stack members across the Melbourne area, quite a few in country Victoria plus lots more across the rest of the country & the world.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork......
Cheers crowie

When you say "died" what do you mean, don'ts start, stopped suddenly or seized?
Potentially embarrassing questions
1) is the kill switch off
2) does it have FRESH fuel
Main questions
1) Does it turn over?
2) Does it have spark
3) When you crank it a half a dozen times does the spark plug come out wet?
Supplementary technical questions if the answer to 1) above is yes.
1) What is the compression like
2) Whats the crankcase vacuum like?

I go past Myrniong a hell of a lot from memory - on the way to and from Melbourne from Ararat, lovely part of Victoria.
Welcome mate.
