Being the office supervisor, I had to have a word with a new employee
who never arrived at work on time.
I explained that her tardiness was unacceptable and that other
employees had noticed that she was walking in late every day.

After listening to my complaints, she agreed that this was a problem
and even offered a solution.

"Is there another door I could use?"

... and when that tardy person retires the company gives them a watch.

The watch should have been given on their first day not their last.

I was five minutes late for work on my first day at my new job after getting out of the army.

The boss took me to one side. "Doug, I am surprised you were late on your first day. You spent 20 years in the army, I was expecting you to be punctual and reliable. What would they have said to you in the army if you were five minutes late?" he asked.

"Well usually they just said 'Good morning, Sir, can I get you a cup of coffee?' ' I replied.
