I was talking to someone that had used Cooktown Ironwood, aka Red ebony, and said with the well known here shellac based friction polish that it went a bit tacky/soft after about a year in humid areas. Anyone know if that is to do with the oils in the wood? If so, what is the best way to finish this stuff?

I do know about the risks of using this wood from a health perspective, but it's so tempting still, incredibly hard/dense wood.

I have only ever finished one Cooktown Ironwood project with shellac, I used Ubeaut White Shellac. It's about 10 years old now, I just went and felt it, seems OK to me.
I ussually use either 2 pack polyurethane or NC Lacquer on my CI, never had a problem.
