View Full Version : AFL. Why did it have to happen!!!!! Bad as Soccer

Our great game is being driven to a place where I never thought it would.
The Croweaters have driven our sport to the lowest level ever, as bad a the sickening levels that are expected from a soccer game.
The final in Adealaide is having seats issued with separate areas for each supporters. Due to rivalry between the fans leading to violence?
What the hell has happened! The best part is being able to go to the footy and sit amoungst the oppositions supporters and enjoy the rivalry without violence.
I can understand it from soccer supporters, they have to do something to overcome the boredom. Nothing like a nil all draw to make your day.
Perhaps we should return to the VFL and get back to enjoying our sport?

Can we get this deleted . The moron is so far off the mark and his comments about soccer so inflamatory that I fear for the direction of the thread. It's stopping me posting my response to this small dicked wonder.

Bait taken, took a while lol.
Apologies to both SA and soccer fans.
My point is that Footy is for fun, not fighting in the crowd.
Comment was made "Tongue in Cheek" which most comments at the footy are. Give it out and take it back but at the end of the day were all mates when we walk out the gate. Heaven forbid anything else.

Apology accepted Benny.
And I'd like to apologise for my rudeness to you.
In this state, violent brawls are common at AFL games, usually afterwards and in the carpark. They are worse than we get at soccer (probably because the crowds are bigger), but go unreported where any crowd incident is played up by people like Cornes and KG who are actively trying to destroy the new A-League.

I don't think it is acceptable to poke fun at another persons favoured sport. Except for Rugby League which is only for blouse wearing, hand bag toteing northerners.

My fault, I was trying to make a point and was expecting flak.
I think our game is so popular because of the spirit it is played. I never want to see it degenerate hence my comment after hearing the news this morning.
I grew up in Kaniva and played in the Tatiara league with Bodertown, Mundulla, Keith, Tintinara and Leeor. The grass roots footy is the way to go.

Good old country footy! At Lucindale footy training they drove a ute around the oval with a keg on the back ... when the boys caught up with the ute, they drank the keg! :D :D

Three rail train lines need the connection between the live rail and the other rails. Electric fence is designed to earth through whatever touches it.

I wonder who they got to try this? 600 volts and enough amps to move a train. Buggered if I'd pull my pecker out and see if I got zapped or not.

Perhaps if you went to the football in Adelaide and had to put up with to Chardonnay quaffing Crows supporters you would want to fight with them as well. Idiots who know nothing about a game and yell and scream abuse really p#$@%$#@ss me off! Just because of their supporters i think they should be penalised 10 goals before the start of the game:D

Still no reason for violence though.
On shocking episodes,
Did anyone see Mythbusters with the Urn of the Covonent (Whatever) Where they hooked up the angels to the cattle prod? Now that looked painful.
Don't mess with electricity, have you seen the scars where the doctors have had to remove dead flesh from an internal burn if you do manage to survive?
Only takes about 100 milliamps to kill you too, especially if you are working alone and the heart goes into defib.

Didn't know that the Port Supporters had to be cordoned off. I think you must be talking about the cheap seats they have specially for Port fans.
There is one team and they are the Crows

Yes, AFL is just as bad as soccer. I am glad you have realised they both suck and can now move on to a better sport.
I have seen a few games of your "sport" on tele and all I see in the crowds are 40 year old women and skinny weedy little guys. Neither of which would put up much of a fight or ever have played footy :D :D :D

I didn't reliase that Crows supporters would lower their noses long enough to be on this bulletin board. The only reason they would cordon off Port supporters off, would be because you, like your team are scared of the mighty POWER! I think we should have a ":D give a crows supporter a RED day:D ". Uhh no.
If it was 100 milliwatts, then yeah, you need that many volts to get there. But you could be nailed by a battery in the right (or wrong) scenario. Sweaty skin, wet, good contract to earth, body chemistry, etc, etc. No two people are the same, and electricity affects people differently, regardless of how much current.
I've been zapped a few times now, and it doesn't affect me very much. Worst was palm to palm, and I got 2 small blisters. Otherwise, nothing special. Grandpa, he falls down with any kind of zappage.
Depends on the person, and the conditions the zap occurs in. Basically, anything through the head and yer toast. Across the chest with a weak heart, basically anything will do it. DC is worse than AC.
Oh yeah, 1500v DC for trains, 600V DC for trams. Both will make you into a crispy critter quick smart. ;)

Ahh but pierce the skin and check the resistance then....................
Gingermick
8th September 2005, 08:01 AM
There can be situation when the resistance of the skin is lessened. Sweat will improve conductivity. But V still equals IR.
600V between the wires in a circuit with low resistance, hence the high current. And, power = voltage * current if I recall correctly, and as you'd need kilowatts to run a tram, the current would need to be a bit higher than 100 milliamps http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/images/icons/icon10.gif
Ahh but pierce the skin and check the resistance then....................
The you could be done in with a 9v battery. The insides are very conductive.

I work with RADARs and Combat Systems on the ANZAC Frigates. Does not take much of a mistake and it's all over shock wise. Had a Kiwi working on a 10,000V system alone, he is very lucky to still be wearing velcro gloves.
Treat all power as if it will kill you. Sometimes it's not the shock but the injury caused by being thrown by it. Can be as dangerous as being caught between a Crows supportor and a Power supporter on the weekend, nasty........................

Actually I can say that before there was a VFL there were people playing Aussie Rules here in SA. Geoffrey Blainey reports that SA Parliament had a game going in their lunch break before there was a VFL.
So shouldn't get carried away about who invented and who copied it.
Got plenty to do in the shed this weekend but it will be allright watching the Crows give Port their cumupance Sat night.
Think it will be miraculous for either the Crows or the Power to win the flag but. Have to go to Perth win there which is doable but then go to Melbourne the week after very likely to play St Kilda who haven't travelled at all. Mind you those party boys are likely to find a way to choke up when it matters.

Good weekend to check out those great SA wineries, not much else going on in SA???
Perhaps a lot of claret spilt at Moron Park and hopefully a busy week at the tribunial with lots of 2 week suspensions??????
At least is one way of getting a decent crowd to the game. The North Port game last week was a laugh, hardly anyone showed up, as bad as some of the attendences in last years finals in Adelaide.
Thank God the cricket is on.......
(Not much interest this year but still a proud Pies supporter, so go the SA Magpies this weekend!!!)

Only a few bites. Shame. I was hoping for the "ridiculous taunts" of the Aussie fan 'all in fun' variety.
I'm a bit of an "outsider looking in" in terms of AFL, Soccer, Rugby League and the whole states thing. Born in SA, raised in NSW, QLD, lived in the NT and now Vic. Played Soccer, League, lots of AFL, Basketball. And worst of all - support Collingwood.
Supporting Collingwood - now that why I want to attack everyone else. :D So I hope all the Port and Adelaide fans have a great time watching the game this weekend - although only 50% of you will in the end!
Seriously, Collingwoods performace the last two years has made me unable to watch a Pies game this year.
The worst group of fans I have ever come across were not of the drunken idiot League, AFL or Soccer persuasion. They were the mums of the under 12's basketball team I coached.
Scary savages.
As for raving regionalism - I once got king hit by a local bloke up in Tully, Far North QLD, because I wouldn't react to the taunts of "You're drinking VB, you're a p**%ter" taunts. Funny thing was, he was drinking VB as well! Seems I made the mistake of not being born and raised in his town. Very interesting bloke... NOT

Just to introduce a serious note into all the usual p1ss-taking: I am, as a devoted Eagles fan, absolutely delighted for Barry Hall that he can play in the Grand Final.
I can't imagine how bloody awful it would be for a footballer to lead his team all season, qualify for a Grand Final and then be rubbed out of contention on a touchy-feely (because that's all it was - we've all seen much worse go unpunished).
I know - Magpie fans will cite Anthony Rocca and there are a bunch of others. I feel the same way about those blokes. A one-match penalty handed down to a player the week before a Grand Final is a more severe penalty by an order of magnitude than the same one week handed down to a player during the home and away round.
The spirit of the competition is that the best two teams contest the game's ultimate prize. That couldn't happen in this case if Barry Hall was prevented from playing.
I won't change my opinion on this even in the unlikely event that the Swans win next week - because they won't!!!!
Go the Mighty Soooooper Eeeeeaaaagles!!!!!![/
