View Full Version : Why we are low on oil

A lot of people can't understand how we came to have an oil shortage here in this country.
Well, there's a very simple answer.
Nobody bothered to check the oil. We just didn't know we were getting low.
The reason for that is purely geographical. Our oil is located in Bass Strait and off the coast of W.A.
Our dipsticks are located in Canberra.

there was a quizz in todays paper with a question : "what is the lowest point of australia?" I immediately replied "Canberra". I think I was wrong but I took the point on principal...
the principal being the one that pollies apply, Ie: "I sorta answered the quesiton so I'll take the credit". Its a bit like being a little bit pregnant ....

Although I agree in principle with my repected mate Zed however if Canberra was the lowest point in Australia then the pollies would look up to us all. ;)

Maybe they need to be in the lowest point to see us from up on their high horses?

And Canberra's roads, like it's Pollies, go round in never ending circles with neither an entry nor exit point.

Fair go Bob, Trav could, like myself, be one of the few in Canberra that doesn't draw a cent from the government either directly or indirectly (services sector to the public of Canberra).
Please everyone be more specific about the lowest point in OZ ... it's Captial Hill which has that big expensive metal pole on top.

It never occurs to y'all that all the politicians come fro myour own bloody states, rather than canberra itself, furthermore they are in town very, very rarely. So **** off with your canberra bashing!

Hmmmm ...
BEGIN Hijack
I wish our 'founding parents', put the new town of Canberra at Dalgetty as it's roughy geographically half way between Sydney and Melbourne. That way
a. I'd be closer to the snowy mountains (my favorite place outside of the shed) be
it winter or summer
b. They would have had a decent road between both Melbourne and Canberra as well as
Sydney and Canberra AND since it would have been more equi-distant I could drive
to both the Sydney AND Melbourne WWW shows ....
END Hijack.

I wish they'd plonked it in NZ. Then we could send the pollies off with a kiwi under each arm and set up decent defences on the east-board coast. http://members.optusnet.com.au/%7Eamcardle60/Smilies/innocent.gif

We did try to set up our capital in New Zealand. Even sent over all our politicians at one point. The kiwis sent them back saying they didn't produce a big enough wool clip and were more stupid than the sheep

How could the kiwis send them back?
All the kiwis live over here :)

As a matter of interest the breakdown of all the pollies that gather here is:
House of Reps
ACT 2
NSW 50
NT 2
QLD 28
SA 11
TAS 5
VIC 37
WA 15
Senate
ACT 2
NSW 12
NT 12
QLD 12
SA 12
Tas 12
VIC 12
WA 12
That's a grand total of 226 of which only 4 represent the ACT or Canberra. And no I am not a public servant either.
Cheers

Baz is right on the money. The pollies are mostly yours and just remember that the often maligned Commonwealth Public Servants (CPS) do a very good job. If the big house on the hill was zapped by Martians (what an intriguing thought!) life in Australia would continue to function very well.
As a former CPS, for some 8 years I will say that the work ethic in my Department (Finance) was excellent and the commitment to producing first class work was second to none. I am proud to have been a Public Servant.
On a different note how about some positive comments. I think most of us would agree that Australia is a wonderful country to live and work. Sure there are problems but we are living in the real world, not the Garden of Eden. So how about we say that the glass is half full not half empty and be thankful we live in Australia.
Hope you all have wonderful lives.
Cheers http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/images/icons/icon7.gif

FWIW the glass is always full, not half full or half empty.
The trouble is most of the time only half the contents are worthwhile the rest is just air and not worth a cracker. :D

Its interesting that the new parliment house is built in a hole on top of a hill.
I'm not sure what that means but there has to be something in it?
