Hi Guys,
My name is Charles.
What do I bring to the table?
Blacksmith, swordsmith, cutler, metal caster, leatherworker and qualified jeweller. I am also able to help with website creation.
My use of timber has thus far been limited to Knife handles and the occasional sculpture.
I am now venturing into furniture making, by need more than anything else, and am hoping this is the place where I can get tips on locating good suppliers for large pieces of timber (definitely not small).
I am happy to give advice on what I know, and am like an information sponge, so what you tell me will stick.
By the way happy new year.
Regards Charles

Welcome, with credentials like those you'll fit right in. Sword smithy is something I'd like to try oneway...

Hi Charles and welcome to the forum. To answer your question re timber might require a few more questions on you but, basically, if you are unable to machine timber straight from the tree then I highly recommend 2 timber suppliers. Mathews at St Marys and Anagote at Marrickville. Both have an excellent range and I have always found them to be very helpful. If you are able to start with slabbed timber straight from the forest and are looking for more exotic timbers, then I recommend Boutique Timbers who can be contacted on line or via Greg Ward on this forum. Boutique have an unbelievable range of timber stacked on their property on the North Coast (of NSW). Have a look at their website and if you do contact them via the website, let them know that you are a member of this forum.
