View Full Version : Big problems with Forum

Tonight the Forum is slower than dialup. I'm currently stuck in attachment manager. Pictures are loaded in the manager but when I hit DONE nothing happens. I've just spent an hour or more writing a post and although it auto-saves I can't find it anywhere. Any clues? I'm going insane.:?:?:?

The Woodwork Forum certainly has been slow in the last day or so, I am constantly seeing the message in the bottom left hand corner of the screen "waiting for wodworkforum.com..." and navigating around the forum is painfully slow.
Out of curiosity, I clicked on the link to the Metalwork Forum in the shortcuts box and entered a whole new world in relation to speed of access. Absolutely chalk and cheese (steel and wood?) difference in performance speed wise, I still see the "waiting for wodworkforum.com..." message for a fleeting second before the screen launches into the chosen post, complete with all the photos instantly on view.
I often wander around the Metalwork Forum to check out what the guys are up to, and they certainly are having a better experience speed wise compared to us woodies.
I would have thought both forums were run on the same server and therefore have the same performance, but it appears to be on a totally different platform.
I have not had any problems in typing this as many have had with the quick reply process, I am using a Macbook Pro through Google Chrome.
Something for the boffins to look into, hope it is resolved soon.

Slow on Friday, slower Saturday, Very slow today.

Cleared cache and logged back in - no change, pages can take up to 50 seconds to load. The load bar starts then hangs, moves slightly and hangs again, appears to move in slow spurts.

Auto save can't be found, replied to defective trees post to be told there was an error as the post had to be 3 characters or more.

Using iPad with latest iOS and Safari.

Same here for the last 48 hours. The forum is very very slow. More than half a minute after clicking reply to this thread before I was able to start typing.

PC
Win 10
Firefox

All other tabs in the same Firefox window are running at normal speed so it's definitely the forum.

Also, when I'm uploading pics I can only use the "Basic Uploader" which means selecting each pic individually with several clicks, and a maximum of 10 pics per upload. This has been the case for about a week. Previously I have been able to click "Select Files" (which no longer shows a little hand when hovering) and when I go to the folder where my pics are on the PC I could just select all that I wanted in one go.

The guru has been informed about slowness waiting for a fix, may need to reboot server.

Auto-save should comes up at the bottom of the text box when you go back to the thread or post to reply. Clicking on the message Restore auto-saved content should fill the text box with your last saved message or at least up to the last auto save point.

If cache has been cleared the autosave won't work.

Cheers - Neil

Certainly slow - couldn't load an emoji - just froze.
Thanks for the update Ubeaut.

Seems to be significantly faster now, but not as fast as normal.

The "Basic uploader" only seems to be rectified too. I didn't actually upload any pics but the "select files" button works now.

Thanks for the engine room work chaps. :2tsup:

Steven's looking into the excess load on the forums. Metalwork and Photo Forums are both unaffected os there's something loading up WWF.

Cheers :U

Steven has been notified again.

There is a massive load on the forums coming from somewhere, but no idea where right now. :~

Weird, it was good earlier, slower than ever now.

Sorry to inform you but the same symptoms as I stated above.

Came good for a while but now has added the issue that any links or instructions like " post quick reply" needs to be done multiple times.

Was ok for about 10 mins but broken again.
Seems like a DNS attack, probably from Trump the Chump's bunker! 😬
Also, if posts are Auto-saved during writing and don't appear when "restore auto-saved content" is selected, where is it saved to? The forum server or on my iPad?

Pearo

Probably more likely a database issue. Its a common problem with vBulletin.

DiRob

I browse early in the morning and the slow issue is a pita at the moment so I am guessing that traffic is not the issue.

Thanks for letting us know, it is a bit weird tho. it might have been related to some changes I did to stop these DOS attacks happening again.

The activity stream is not updating with each new post. Have to refresh the page each time. I don't know if it is just me, or if the settings have been changed to reduce server load. Doesn't bother me either way, just a heads up.

Perhaps it has something to do with daylight savings time  :D

All fine here in the deep North. :B

More likely to have been something to with the US election, it is normal this morning and working well.

the activity stream is working for me again. I tried nothing and ran out of options, but like any good problem. It fixed itself :D

Is it just me, or is the process of choosing an image, uploading it, selecting it and adding it inline painfully slow? I'd rather go to the dentist right now and have my teeth pulled out without any laughing gass.

Waldo

It's taken 5 hours so far. I'm updating my thread on my grandfather clock.

The photos take forever to upload and even when I do and then preview my post, some photos show as 'Attachment 123456', so I fix those photos to replace with new ones. Then when I preview, other photos show as eg. 'Attachment 123456' Would love if something was provided as a solution to this nightmare.

I use postimages.org.

click choose Images
(I have all photos stored on pictures)
select your photo
let it load up then select
click hotlink for forums
click blue icon on right
It will popup 'copied'
go to forum page where you are typing and right click.

Thanks Tonyz, you've changed how I will now upload photos of my work in this place.

I used postimage for years, then they had a hiccup and every photo I ever posted on any forum got wiped out. I had a couple of threads on one forum that had hundreds of photos and over a million views each, both threads became immediately worthless.

I tend not to participate in forums as much as I once did, largely due to the hassles around images.

Cheers Andrew
