Hello all.......Scott here and just wanted to introduce myself. The ladies can't resist me ....... Fish fear me!!! (nah I made both of those up)
Anyway, I have been working wood since Jr. High and recently got all my stuff out of storage after a year in an apt. I am very excited to be back in the swing of things and have spent the last couple of days in 100 degree heat organizing my garage.
I have already enjoyed the forum just seeing the awesome projects some of you have completed. I look forward to learning some new techniques as well. I am from the USA BTW so forgive me if I use inches and feet in my posts.
Anyway, there ya go!!!
Be safe
Scott

Welcome
The inches and feet aren't a problem, it was the 100 degrees that worried me, especially when you call your self "firewalker":D :D
Just to save everybody some trouble, you're not a troll are you? :)
Cheers, Jack

I may look like a troll in another 40 years or so but for now I am nothing of the sort. LMAO.
Thanks for the welcome.

I was reading posts with dimensions like 1800x900............Made me get out a conversion chart ....... hehe.
This will be a blast trying to figure out some of the slang used here. Anyway, my wife is in bed.........and wondering where I am. 'nuff said.

1800x900 is a lot easier to visualise than 27/49ths of an inch. Makes me laugh with these web convertors. They convert inches to mm, but you still need to put in a decimalised inches (e.g 0.375).....And how the hell are you supposed to work with spreadsheets?

Hah, you ought to try American boat plans - feet, inches, eights with a + or - to indicate the sixteenths eg 1.2.5+ = 1 foot 2 inches 5 eigths and 1 sixteenth.
Of course, then there are the survey plans, pre metrication, where we'd use decimal feet ... perhaps coz sometimes they were feet and inches but shown the same way so you had to look for a distance that had .11 to tell the difference.
And we won't even buy into engineer's micrometers, some of which I still can't read.

(gets large container of salt..........) hehe
I do agree, the metric system would be a lot easier on some applications. This will be fun to break through some barriers to learn a few things. I have spotted a few terms such as thicknesser, rebate, etc........
I will probably "do a search" to find out what some things mean but still ask in a new thread to get under sensitive skin! LMAO
I have been working on a modular tool bench system similar to "tool dock" but I am using the concept and tweaking it a bit. About 1/2 way through I thought........why the hell did I do this? After the first cabinet had the top on it and the slabs fit nice I remembered. The vac/tool switch will be a nice touch. I have been shooting sawdust around the garage with no collection whatsoever!!!
Off to work.........talk to you later

Some of us prefer to use cubits, but it's hard to find rules with that scalehttp://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/images/icons/icon10.gif
BTW, Welcome Firewalker! Just watch out for Aussie humour - it sometimes has teethhttp://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/images/icons/icon10.gif
