After finishing renovating my 1950's house I carelessly broke one of the glass panels. I have looked extensively for a replacement piece of glass and or door but failed. I was told by a specialist glass place that this particular glass is now rare and would have to be very lucky to find some.
So what do I do

1./ Put in glass that doesn't match--looks like crap
2./ Replace whole door with old solid door of similar vintage. Difficult to find, door is 870 wide so oversize. have looked at many recycling places and typically the response was "good luck with that"
3./ Replace lower sections, from break down with a solid ply in fill. and some sort of bead around it and paint white. The door is 35mm thick so will easily support a 12-15mm ply insert

#3 is my only option I think but am not sure how to do it. I'm pretty handy but don't really want to spend too much time on it. The only way I can think to do it is to rout out a channel on the 3 sides- (double depth) and cut a piece of ply and then slide in and glue.. Place some beading at the top to support the glass.

Any one have a better idea and or better method. As you can see I have a temp panel in place and have been putting this off for months. Any thoughts appreciated.

cheers
