A teenager was nervous as he took the wheel for his first driving
lesson. Two other students waited their turns in the back seat.

As the driver was pulling out of the parking lot, the teacher said,
"Turn left here, and don't forget to let the people behind you know
what you're doing."

The young driver turned to the students sitting in the back seat and
announced, "I'm going left."

Well, he did as instructed by the teacher. If the teacher had instructed "Turn left here, and don't forget to let the vehicles behind you know what you're doing."
it would have been a different situation.
Have been in a similar situation teaching 4WDing. So called instructors jump into a vehicle and say do this and that, thinking it was a manual vehicle not noting it was an automatic, where totally different rules apply.

Student to supervising driver, "I'll turn left here?"
Supervising driver, "Right".
So student prepares to turn right.
Supervising driver, "I thought we were turning left?"
Student, "But you told me right!"

I always tried to answer correct or incorrect to prevent this confusion.

Unfortunately the English language seems to have been designed to allow for that type of misunderstanding - and for "Dad Jokes".
