Been having a problem with the constant chirping emitted by a smoke detector.

In the beginning the chirping was intermittent but over the last week has been
very persistent.

We searched and tested but nothing was found, until the wife decided to search
some boxes stowed under the bed. There was the culprit!! We had removed a
detector some time back and replaced it with a new long life Li ion battery unit
sent to us by Air B&B. Neither of us had thought to remove the battery from the
old unit before storing it!!.:B

I've found that's a sign that the battery is on the way out, although the last time it happened it was the unit that was on the way out.

Actually, the thread title caught my attention as we've only just finished watching all 41 episodes of the excellent 1984-94 productions of Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett, Edward Hardwicke). Many of them are "The Case Of xxxx xxxx". Absolutely first class productions.

My parents had their house fumigated twice to get rid of the crickets that they were convinced were living in the corridor next to their smoke detector.

Doesn't say much for the ethics of their fumigator!

We've one that goes off for no reason, another about 2 metres away doesn't do it. The one that plays up has been replaced 3 times, last time we upgraded it to photon and ion, I think it is, even it goes off for no reason. No comment from the manufacturer about it though.
