I've been hunting down some blonde or super blonde de-waxed shellac flakes. Carbatec sell a 500g bag of the Liberon product for an astonishing $174 whereas Neil at U-Beaut pointed me to Shines and I found Graeme Brown Antique online who are both selling blonde de-waxed flake for around $35/500g.
I'm assuming Carbatec are importing the Liberon product from the US and charging a premium for that but the pricing still seems high given Rockler sell a 250g bag for $35 AUD and the 500g is selling for $70 (AUD?).
Is Liberon a superior shellac product? Or a shellac being sold by Carbatec at a superior price?

I use orange shellac and don't have much knowledge of the price of other products, but I, like you, smell something fishy.
I would say there is a possibility that a mistake has been made at Carbatec. It may be worth asking them about it.
I'm very skeptical to believe that anything could make that much difference in price.
Good luck,
Luke

If you go down about 10 threads you'll read of a similar concern I brought up about Carba-tecs pricing of blonde dewaxed shellac. I sent a letter to the CEO of carb-tec several weeks ago, no reply as yet. I'd like to thank you for jogging my memory, I think tomorrow would be a good day to send a rocket up someone's proverbial.

Thanks Huon, will be curious to hear how far you get but I'm not hopeful! Sounds like you got stung though--sorry to hear it. I was just about to head over to Carbatec Perth and fork our $174 so I'm very, very glad I bothered to look around first for $40!

Try contacting Liberon Australia. Liberon - wood finishing and restoration products. (http://www.liberon.com.au)
They can provide a list of other local retailers.
I found them to be very friendly.
