Hi all, I have taken the finials off my roof to repair and paint before returning them to their original position. They are turned from Huon Pine so are generally in excellent condition apart from where they were attached to the frame. Fortunately that section is just square in section, so if all else fails I can cut it out, replace it with a bit of hardwood the same dimensions and dowel it back together, but ideally I would like to retain the entire structure.
I am told there is a sort of wood filler that allows you to scrape out the rotted bits, then pour this in so it hardens the remaining bits of dodgy timber then shape it to the dimensions you want.
Does anyone know what this is called and where I might get it? I can post some pics of the finials if required.
Thanks
