Exterior house paint.

Hi all, I need to repaint a westerly facing wall on my weatherboard house, previous paint used has always been dulux weathershield, i am not that impressed with this paint need to redo every two years or less, all prep work done to directions so are there other brands that anyone has used and could recommend, think i have read this on forum before but cannot find using search, thanks steve.

The western side of my house was painted 2 years ago and shows no sign of weathering or blistering.
Paint used was Wattyl Solarguard.

For +20 years I used Solarguard on a previous house with no problems, and would use it again.

how does the paint fail? Fading, blistering or cracking. Also, what colour?

i work in the industry, and not for Dulux, etc. There are a lot of reasons paints fail, so understanding the failure mode helps with the selection of a suitable system.

Peter,the paint is cracking no blistering, areas with lots of small cracks that you can flick off with your fingernail , so time to sand where needed and redo, The colour is portland stone, the rest of the house is fine, just this westerly wall that gives me trouble, cheers steve.

That sounds more like a preparation problem than a paint issue. All of the major paint companies make product that should last. The colour you have is not going to contribute by getting too hot. I would remove all loose paint, sand back and ensure you prime any area where the timber is exposed and then repaint.

Check the areas where the paint is cracking off to ensure they are not contaminated with some sort of oil/ grease/ silicone from before it was painted.

I'd also give Dulux technical a call. They stand behind their product and have good customer support.

Wattyl Solarguard certainly does have the reputation ........ the only other thing I would sugest is Receene enamacryl/lustacryl.

I've never been impressed with Dulux or their business methods.
