Dirk and I would like to convey our heartfelt thanks for an extremely enjoyable weekend. Firstly to Dave and Rachael and the kiddies for hosting the GTG and making us so welcome in their home, and looking after our every need. Secondly to all of the attendees and their lovely better halves who shared their knowledge, time, skills, and good humour with us. I didn't want it to end but alas, there's work tomorrow.
Thankyou all very very much.

Sign me up for next year Dave. Maybe I can finish the egg cup. :)

Best regards.

I have to return to Dooen to load my tools in the morning and then I'm off to Sydney for more work.

Below my precious kids sleep guard over my precious box

For me a success do is for people to have a good time and for them to leave wishing they could stay and / or get home wanting to come again.

On that scale it was a great weekend.

Thank you all who made it. Thank you to those who have followed with interest. You all made it a special weekend in different ways. What also stood out is how everyone watched how they spoke around the kids. Again thankyou

There will be mre pics by myself and others to come.

Yet to be judged is the firewood challenge. I hope to get the pics together and posted in the next few days. For the attendees I ask theysend their vote to Treecycle and he will talky them up and announce the winner. I will post a link to a forum poll where all members will have a chance to vote. Attendees will be abke to cast a vote here as well

Our shed is dirty aswell. Need to clean up after last weeks effort to get things done so we could come down.

I'm so glad we did, even though it is a long drive. As dad already said we had a great time and thank you very much for your hospitality and also thanks to everyone else there. I had a wonderful time learning new things.

Put me down for next year if thats whats happening :)

Dave,

I would have loved to be there as well but unfortunately my health precludes me from doing things I used to do such as camping, living rough or driving distances.

My body is a bit like a house infested with termites, looks great on the outside but internally I'm dealing with the remnants of cancer, stop my autoimmune system from killing my liver and suffering from a partially collapsed lung as well as other bits and pieces that has started to wear out.

Thus I was only an armchair participant of this great gtg. As such I enjoyed what went on and seeing some photos. I would have liked more posts and photos but realise that that far west there was no internet available. :C

So Dave from an armchair participant thank you for putting on such a great weekend, it sure lightened things up for those who could not came. Also thank you for collecting my chuck from Elderly and to Gabriel for delivering it. Much appreciated.

Peter.

BTW where is the great group photo of all the participants. Those that left early could have been photo shopped in and it would be a great record of a great long weekend.

A few ideas...
don't know how practical they would be, but maybe a router table setup and some box making demos?...maybe something different from the gifkins jig (as most of us have seen that at the shows)....

Possibly thread chasing on a lathe (maybe that's just me wanting to learn)
Some other finishing techniques, I haven't ever seen ncl bring used but many swear by it.... how to use burnishing oil properly,

Maybe a demo from some of the toy boys (that sounds bad) about how they go about either the design or from an idea into production.

I know there is a dedicated day happening in Sydney soon, nut sharpening techniques

I'll keep thinking. ..

Among the small group who attended we have a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience on a very diverse range of woodworking and general subjects. With or without planned demos the exchange of ideas and inspiration over the weekend was amazing.

I think 2 planned demos a day would be a good balance, leaving plenty of time for spontaneous interaction and sharing as well. Good idea Dave, and great to see all the other suggestions for demos/workshops.

Many, many thanks to Raechell, Dave and the kids for putting on a great weekend, like the last one, a great success. To see the kids playing happily and SO well behaved was fantastic.

The camaraderie was fantastic, to see and share in so many different aspects of woodworking and associated activities, there isn't anything better.

Just finished unpacking the car...
Got home about an hour ago....
The roadworks from Bathurst to Mt Victoria were very slow then the trip across to Katoomba and down the hill equally as slow.

That new Ford did the 2360kms round trip easily [thank you to the few who offered support just in case of another breakdown]; we got just on 11.3kms per litre & in old money that's a superb 32mpg out of a big 6cylinder; the economy could have been slightly better; Ray did the majority of the driving for me [thank you, sir] ..... he found that the Ford XR6 does have a lot of get-up & go ....... and thus the cruise control became very wise option...

Anyways, I need a good rest after such a big weekend with a top mob of blokes & ladies....THANK YOU Raechell & Dave.....You are a very special couple both hard working and generous...Dave, make sure you bring her a bunch of flowers when you get home from this Sydney work trip, as she deserves them & much more...

WOODWORK, friendships, camaraderie, encouragement, giving&sharing, fun, fly's & dust - WHAT A TOP WEEKEND!!!!

I am a little surprised to find that some-one may have thought that an XR6 could break down

Regards

Keith

No Keith, It was a joke at my expense.....
Last Australia Day GTG at Jerilderie, I towed Ray's old caravan from Cowra with my LPG EB2, but there was no oil cooler on the transmission, so the gearbox & engine got way too hot, used a bucket of extra LPG. When we stopped for refueling the servo didn't have LPG, so the NRMA truck had to take us to Narrandera some hour in the wrong direction to refuel.. Dave & Trevor came up to Narrandera ensure we got the last 120kms safely....Only 4hrs late....Peter.369906369907

Settle down son, we did make it, if a little late...besides the old girl had 300,000kms on the clock and no one told me to tow a van I'd need a transmission cooler!!

Finally the start of the photos...Sunday evening & Monday morning...the photos have all been cropped and resized in MS2010 to 60%, not Photoshop [apologies to Bob] so nothing creative...

BUT FIRSTLY,
may I add my THANKS again to our gracious hosts [such a huge effort to cater for everyone],
plus all the top folk who made the trip to Dooen; you made my trip worthwhile and very much, a beaut long weekend...

Cheers, crowie

PS - Hopefully "Uncle Al" can add some of his photos too....
