1:) Danish with poly and 2:) Poly over white/hard shellac ?

Just wondering if any of you danish oil users know which of the readily available commercial mixes has poly in it for sure ?

I've been using a little white shellac lately and have been thinking it , or rather the hard shellac I've just bought might go well under polyurethane spray lacquer
as a hard solid base . Anyone tried it ?

Also the shellac's (Ubeaut) say dilute with meth/ethanol , whats a standard dilution , say 50/50 or 2/1 meth to shellac or vice versa or do I judge the thickness of the mix by the type of wood I'm using ? - ie: thin for denser wood like ebony and thicker for porous wood like woody pear .

The Cabots Danish oil I'm using definitely has polyurethane in it, I'd say. I don't reckon Organoil (Old Style) Danish Oil has any polyurethane, or hardly any, in it.

Cheers , I'll keep Cabots Danish in mind , I remember seeing it in Bunnies last week.
As for the other bit , not shellac under danish , but as a hard base under a polyurethane spray lacquer to help seal porous wood up ( a fairly thick mix) -
I wanna try that as one style of finish and danish (the type with poly) as another . I also like Shellawax cream or linseed oil then wax but I like to keep trying new methods/finishes .

Polyurethane and lacquer are different products.

I've used a thin coat of shellac under lacquer to seal stains/greasy wood, but I'd hesitate to lacquer over a thick base of shellac. Might separate.

I always use shellac thin, like skim milk. If I want a good build I apply four or more coats.

Cheers JB , I do mean Polyurethane Spray Finish in that case , not lacquer .

I was thinking the Shellac could be like a see through primer , mainly to fill in the pores of some timbers . I know the UB Shellac says you can mix it 5-1 for a sanding sealer on the bottle but thats for stopping the grain lifting , not filling it . I suppose I could build it up and try just the shellac with a wax paste or tripoli powder buff to finish . I think I'm gonna dig out some old rubbish cues from my collection and try a few different methods on them before finishing my next real project . Does white/hard shellac buff up well , I gather so if they use it on furniture and pianos and the like ?
I need to get some 100% industrial metho first , the Diggers stuff at Bunnings is only 96% .

I have used shellac as a sealer between incompatible finishes.
eg lacquer over oil base stain.
I have also used it as a sealer under single pack poly
Havent used hard shellac though but expect it will work.

Cheers Bob , hard should hopefully work just the same as normal white . I'll use a coat of white first as is suggested by UBeaut . I can then compare straight shellac with a shellac + poly finish .thanks
