Solution to prevent dry rot in framing timbers???

Hi guys, building a deck and some timber under our pregola is starting to show signs of dry rot.... Any ideas of a solution to slow this down or prevent it... My trusty neighbour thinks linseed oil, Tarabin (or something that sounds like that word) and turps mixed together... He said it soaks in to the timber... Would he be right,, any ideas? Thanks
