Is it just my computer or is everyone getting big Google ads at the top of each forum, Google adsense ads in the body and other popups at the bottom that say "you might also like".
Cos I most assuredly DO NOT LIKE ANY OF THEM! Can't work out how to get rid of the damn things.
It only happens on this site.

I'm using Chrome with Adblock; gets all the ads off my screen and you can individually block ads that it doesn't get automatically.

To block trackers like Adsense, have a look at ghostery. ( Works with Firefox, not sure about Chrome)

Those ads are generated for visitors and members who don't log in. They help to keep the forums free for members. Log in and some will disappear. Participate and they will all go away bar one at the bottom of the side panel below the forum Sponsors. You need to participate and have at least a couple of posts to get rid of them all.
Those ads help to keep these forums on line, up to date, FREE and pretty much advert free for participating members. Without them the forums may not exist.
Cheers - Neil :U
PS They can't possibly be as annoying as my current signature below.

I use FF with Adblock Edge, Adblock Plus, Adblock Plus Pop-up Addon, & Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus.

No wonder people don't know who the forum sponsors are and how to get hold of them. The side banners also help towards keeping the forums free and online.
I have included 4 full screen shots in this thread as a comparison taken from the first 3 other wood forums I found on Google (that weren't us) and the fourth from this page and to be honest ours looks to be by far the least cluttered of the lot with only a small percentage of the page devoted to Sponsors and Advert and a whole lot of space to display the bulk of the page compared to narrow space on others.

Just be aware that by using adblockers/popup blockers you may be missing out on important information, announcements and might block some access to parts of the forums with popup blockers.
Pretty sad state of affairs when something so simple appears to be so annoying to people. Might as well block the whole forum and then there won't be any angst or torment at all.

I don't find it annoying at all, I can't see it. :D

I have no problem with the site/sponsor ads - I use them to source supplies. It is a sad state of affairs when I have to use blockers for pirate ads and in the process may lose those approved by our Benevolent Dictator. It gives me the screaming irritts that the offender in this case is Google. How dare they! Too much damn technology!

As I said before Bruce you will only see all those ads if you are NOT logged in.
We only have the one ad on for members who participate and are logged in and in most instances it isn't seen unless you are on the 3rd or 4th screen down from the top of the page you're viewing and it's at the bottom of the side bar. So not really intrusive, and in most instances goes unnoticed.
I have just checked the ad setup and the only members who will be seeing some ads (apart from the side one} are those who have never posted and those who have between 1 & 5 posts. You have to participate to get the privilege of no ads.
If you are seeing "big Google ads at the top of each forum, Google adsense ads in the body and other popups at the bottom that say "you might also like" you are not logged in or you are unregistered.
Simple fix for everyone seeing those ads: LOG IN or register and participate.
No need for ad blockers or popup blockers, just log in or log in and if you click on the remember me box and never log out, you won't even have to log in every time and shouldn't see them at all. Then you won't be getting the "screaming irritts" or being so grumpy about something you have control over and Google doesn't.
If you do that then the only really annoying thing that may give you the "screaming irrits" will be my signature below:

Unfortunately with "free" forums and FB we are the commodity - the purchasing public that advertisers want to persuade into purchasing their clients products.
I think Neil runs a pretty tight ship, with a well presented forum layout. I only see an unobtrusive strip of sponsors adds on the RH margin with the Google add at the bottom of that strip.
The adds I see are mostly for weight loss, hearing tests etc. Are they telling me something??
May pay to have you non-luddite son to improve your antivirus software "package" etc which should tidy up unwanted adds as well. :)

Unfortunately, the adblockers are necessary for other sites.
I have 4 installed in FF & I have it Spybot Immunized & I have Malwarebytes & AVG but there are still some sites that manage to pop up stuff about online gambling & girls who want to be my friend.
One of the worst sites that I go to a couple of times a week is the Footy Tips site.
They have banner adverts buried in the page that are almost impossible to get rid of & the way that the video loads & runs without asking is rude.
The video is easy to block but the Bloody Crown Casino & Hungry Bloody Jacks banners are very hard to get rid of.
