Hi All,
I have recently discovered that our windows are in fact double hung after then being painted shut for years. I have managed to free the top sash of the double hung window but just wasn't sure which side of the sliding vertical channel needed to be removed to enable the removal of the sash. The bottom sash is easy enough with the inside trim being removed but Im just not sure if it should be the inside or outside of the vertical channel that should be removed to accommodate the removal of the top sash. The window is not really giving any hints and they are over 100 years old. All of the videos I have seen so far on You Tube go into great detail of removing the bottom sash and then just magically next show replacing the sash cords without describing how they removed the top sash.
Further to this I want to replace the glazing from the 3mm existing to 6.38mm laminated. It seems like a simple task of just routing the rebate a further 3mm to enable the thicker glass, however on the bottom sash its a channel rebate not an open rebate at the top. Is it going to be necessary to try and disassemble the frame to allow me to increase the width of this channel rebate?
Thanks
Stinky
