I don't see any thumbnails or images anymore.
Can only read now.
I've tried IE, firefox, opera and chrome, same for all of them.

I'm also finding the forum a lot slower since the upgrade.
It's a bit annoying but not a deal breaker.

Interesting responses - in my situation, the forum is slow - almost impossible to type a PM response - AFTER about half a line - 30 seconds type time frame - and yet typing this so far has been totally normal as it is a response to the ope form, not PM response.

I the canning of the form posts goes slow, dn't forg tha may simpy be response to the nmbersuinghe fru.

Oh Oh - oo like hins have gone slow for typing again - ut at lest went much further this time http://d1r5wj36adg1sk.cloudfront.net/images/smilies/standard/biggrin.gif http://d1r5wj36adg1sk.cloudfront.net/images/smilies/standard/confused.gif

What do the code cutters who wrote & maintain the forum programme reckon the issues are ?

EDITED _ icon insert does not seem to wan to work .........

I don't seem to be having a problem with the typing of PM's or posts. No lag in typing time that I have found. Been trying to duplicate the slow typing thing but can only do so when my external HD is backing up or when something else is running in the background.

I have found the forum to be slow at times since the change over to the new supposedly super fast server.

This was due to there being no cache available and also waiting for individual computers and servers to update their DNS. However on the other hand I have struck a number of instances where the speed has been lightening fast.

I have passed this onto Steven and will see what comes. Same thing happened last time we went to a faster server. Took around 3 weeks or so to clear up.

Hopefully these problems will all be sorted out in the very near future.

Well it sounds like all the people who are finding it slower are now down to my usual speed :D

My choke point is the speed of the local internet (TPG ADSL 2+) which is desperately ordinary (speed tests show about 8-9 mbps).

Forum speed hasn't changed at all for me (as I expected), and nor will it when it gets back up to speed.

It is just that living up in the clouds at Katoomba, ADSL has trouble............... at least you have ADSL2 - here in Redland Bay ADSL is all that seems to be available - yes TPG user as well as the Little Swamp cannot even do that - we do enjoy about 8 on a sunny day.

Typing speed does start out OK, then about a line or so later slows right down.

Browsing the Forum usually seems pretty good display speed- just seems speed issue is with posting- for me anyway.

Just type slowerrrrr

.....here in Redland Bay ADSL is all that seems to be availableEh? Say what? That's Brissie metro, and was a major development area 10 or so years ago.

I have not noted any change at all since the forum was updated, and it is still running fine for me.

Fence Furniture - you are correct about Redland Bay - about 12 months ago there was an announcement re NBN -a local area was going to be one of the first locations in Qld to be installed - trouble was the location chosen had almost no permanent residents as it was actually a wild life reserve over on Stradbroke Island. Must have looked good on some map I suppose.

Chris - what operating system do you use & what internet browser ?

No.

It's a long standing issue with the way Microsoft chooses to interpret and implement web standards (ie not like everyone else). The only fix is to move to a standards compliant browser such as Firefox, Opera, Safari, Chrome... These have no particular issues with the VBulletin forum software.

Apparently, with Windows 10, Microsoft is introducing a new web browser (currently named Spartan) with an all new rendering engine. It's not yet known if this marks the end of the Internet Explorer line, and it's not known if Spartan will run on pre-Windows 10 machines.

(And yes, the forums have been running slower for me (NBN 25/5 connection) since the upgrade. My vote is that the hosting company has not only upgraded the servers but also increased the number of virtual machines running on each server!)

We have a heap of email messages that go out at midnight each day and can disrupt some forum speed and may be a problem with the typing because they are working hard in the background. For some reason these have been going out at around 11:00am instead of Midnight and running for up to 30 minutes which might be one of the problems.

There has also been some syncing work going on today that could have lasted a few hours.

Added to that we still haven't been able to get the caching working on the server as yet.

The typing problems aren't associated with the server but will most likely be the fault of your browser or something working in the background whilst you are typing. It is also a commonly known fact that Internet Explorer (IE) has caused problems in the past with these forums and it is highly recommended that IE users switch to Firefox, Chrome, Opera or some other browser to use the forums. Also keeping your browser up to date with the most recent versions may help.

For IE users please have a look at the below threads concerning problems with IE.

Hi All,

With Neils help my image problem is now fixed.
I was still seeing the text (which must have still had a copy on the old server),
but the images must have been on the new server (so I didn't see them).

There was an entry in my HOSTS file that was still pointing to the old server.
I've commented it out, cleared my cache and rebooted and it all seems to behave better.

If any of you are getting slow speeds might be worth checking if you also have an entry for the old server.
You can comment it out with a '#' at the start of the line or delete the line entirely.

Thanks Peter
