This evening SWMBO discovered that one of the card table chairs that she borrowed was missing a plastic cap on the bottom of the leg. With the ladies coming over this evening, the chair leg would have surely scratched and gouged the floor.
I measured the diameter of the leg and rushed off the Mom & Pop hardware store. "Which color would you like white or black?"
Of course the BORG was of no help.
Was the price reasonable? At less then $3, who cares.
During the year end holidays, I always bring them a little something, home baked or a box of candy.

Yep, have a small local hardware store which is my first stopping point. Run by Mum, Dad and the son and daughter , a real family affair.
They don't always have what I need but I only tend to go elsewhere if they can't get it for me by the end of the week or is not available from their suppliers - other advantage is I can phone and order.
They did become part of the thrifty link group when the big box store came to town but still own their store and have continued the usual service.

Handy indeed!!!:2tsup::2tsup::2tsup:
Here in Aus these places are close to extinction.
In Brazil there are little Hardware stores everywhere. I never saw any evidence of big chains over there but I guess that will come.

Close to me is (by comparison) a small hardware store. While they do not sell everything, they sell most of what I need.
Some prices are high compared to a big chain store, but other prices are lower and I save a heap on time.
The store opens 7 days a week - the owner even went to jail for opening on Sunday. Now all the chain stores trade on Sunday.
Unfortunately, it sounds like in the next two or three years the business will close and I will be travelling a lot more for my hardware items.

I have a small Hardware shop nearby in Tullamarine which is my first stop for everyday items. They know their stuff and always helpful.
No affiliation - just a happy customer.

I remember all that from some ago. He was a trail-blazer for better or worse.
