finishing but first removing the finish

Greeetings to all,
First time post & starting to rekindle my love of woodwork
Tis not just the finish but how to remove them
I had to remake a jarrah leg for a verrrry heavy coffee table. had the orig leg drum sanded and also made a magazine rack for it. The top has the orig frinish and is cracking some part lifting but is quite hard. Looks like some kind of lacquere or even by the hardness a 2pac

If it were me I'd Finish with Minwax Wipe on Poly theres a discussion on Minwax by forum members here:

heres a thaught.
If the finish is either shelac or simple laquer It might just wipe off with solvent. :D Now thats a happy think. Wipe is probably a little light...... scrub... thats better.

I have the under side of the table to do a little testing so I will try the spirit approach and see what happens, then try some of the options from the link (Thanks NewLou). I'll also look at the Minwax, never heard or used it, but nothing vetured nothing gained

Will keep you posted on the outcome.
