I think you will find that there is only about one other company that will provide you with an ISDN service and the chance that you would get it would be pretty remote.

The problem is Telstra provide the ISDN service from the exchange and maintain the service. Once you move away from Telstra as a ISP they then charge you for every dial up connection you make over the internet.

I have ISDN and have had 9 ISDN boxes blown up by lightening and they have replaced them all free of charge. They suggested that I put on two way satelite on the HBis susidy scheme which I did.

This gives me 64/256k upload/download with 500meg limit and costs me $69.00 a month and this is a permanant connection. As PTC says no need for a phone bill.

The 2way sat cost $129.00 to have installed by Telstra on the HBiS subsidy, normaly about $2000

I still have the ISDN connected because it gives me a second phone line for only about $6.00 a month and that allows me to have a stand alone fax line.

What I found because of the delay in the satelite my 64k ISDN connection was probably just as fast in downloading pages. Where the satelite is good in downloading files at 256k. It down loads a meg in about 30 seconds.

When I was using the ISDN I was just using a $29.95/month dial up plan at 64k with unlimited time and download.

Because I am a Priority Health Risk Telstra customer if I have line problem they send a tech out under 24hours and I am 55klms from town.

I really can't complain about Telstra and I have heard just as many war stories about all the other Telco's anyway.

If you are in the bush I would think seriously about not changing from Telstra.

Bob

Not fighting fit yet but I feel an improvement every day. The leg actually feels worse where they stripped the vein out for the bypass, than what the chest feels but I am still getting those niggerly little pains.

The worst is having to sleep on my back because it puts pressure on my sturnum.

But hey whose complaining at least I get to go a few more rounds in this fight called life, and I wouldn't be dead for quids.

And the other thing is if I live long enough I'll get over it.

They tell me it will take 3 months for the sturnum to heal, after that I should be home clear.

My first ha meant a stent. I was told to take a cab home from the railway station. But I felt absolutely great and walked a mile home.

My second ha also meant a stent, but I was very seedy for some time, so I just did things nice and easy till I came good.

So take it easy Bazza and don't push yourself, only do things when you are feeling great and back off if you get even slightly weary.

Telstra, $89.95 no limits and includes normal phone service, same as Harry 72 I think, for $10 less there is 500m limit which was a real rort, kids got through that in the first week.

Telstra $89.95 ISDN home, no down load limits, no dial up charge, because i have home, internet, mobile with Telstra we get $25 per month in Free STD calls. I think (mind you i just sell this stuff) Local calls are at 17.5 cents and we have capped STD and Mobile calls.

No bad, but just found out we can get ADSL YIPEE this will save about $10 month of bill but will be quicker, everyone outside of metro area should check out if they are eligible for the goverments HiBis makes things much cheaper.

Total for phone & internet is about $80/Month plus the cost of the phone calls.

Tel$tra Home ISDN Approx $45/Month gives me 2 phone lines.
Pigpond ISDN 500Mb Approx $35/Month no other charges until I go over 500Mb per month.

Given the very poor quality of the line & it doesn't work at all for about 6 days a month, it's very hard to use more than about 75Mb/Month.

Here in Adelaide which is a halfway house between the city and country I think I am spending $60 for cable with no limits and 60 for ADSL both from Telstra. Has been reliable for the most part. The ADSL is pretty slow 256 & 128 on the upside. I haven't had time to look for someone better but it is a lot of money and not much speed.

The Nationals complain about Telstra and etc but they aren't really looking after us in the city that well. Just imagine I am on one of Adelaides main arterial roads and there is no cable!

Got to look for someone else to look after me.

What gives me the ****s is these bloody adverts I get in my mail box promising BB at city prices and then stating "not available in all areas" well doh why put it in my letter box!
Apparently BB can only reach 3km from a exchange, in my town they reckon they need to install an extra 2 exchanges to cover the town(not ****** likely, not telstra anyway), just happens I live 3.1km from the exchange... and that Hibis scam wont cover my town :(

But you live in Port Pirie, if you had flash stuff what would the neighbours think!!!!!!!!! Been to the Telstra exchange in Pirie a few times, not a bad place.......What you need to do is log on to the Telstra country Wide site every second day with all of your neighbours phone numbers and address and request broadband, from what i understand when they get around 80 requests they will upgrade the exchange.

p.s. i never told you this

Not that I'm trying to draw any connections here. Not that I'm suggesting that money could ever affect decisions made by someone as independant as Telstra. But ...

Broadband wasn't available here (in the suburbs). In fact, the best I could do on dial up was 28kps. Then, about 300m away, a MASSIVE retirement village opened for business ... and broadband was magically available

My sister, also in the burbs, couldn't get broadband and was told it'd be three years away (standard reply). So she complained to her member of parliament ... and got broadband within the month
