Looking good:
20°
Partly cloudy. Slight (30%) chance of a shower, most likely in the evening. Light winds.
http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/forecasts/katoomba.shtml
That's an improvement on the forecast 2 days ago where they were saying 16° and 40% chance of a shower during the arvo.
Now 16° is just fine by me, but all you Sydney girls would be a bit chilly. :D
WARNING _ Heatwave at Katoomba !!!!!

Brett said it would be OK to bring along a saw or two. As some of you may know I have picked up a couple over the last few months. Most of these two are users and my intention is that they can be tried. These two are for curiosity's sake only:
329516329517329518
A couple of saws are for sale: A couple from the 19th century, a couple of large tenon rip saws and a couple of other tenon saws, a Disston D5 crosscut and an Abbeydale rip (made by Tyzack):
329519329520329521329522
I also have a couple that I probably won't have time to finish:
329523
Let me know if there is anything you are chasing (particular ppi etc) and I will try to bring it along. No obligation of course. I was getting these saws ready for Ebay, but it occured that even if nobody was in the market you might like to just look or even try a couple.
Talking such things, a couple have a little age on them. C Bishop No.1 (made by Disston) is 1865 - 1876 and the Disston No.8 early 1850s. Since I cleaned up the medallion, this is a little earlier (but not by much) than my previous estimate.
Oh we will be auctioning off a couple with no reserve starting at a dollar. Could be a couple of bargains there!
Regards
Paul

Tony, he's calling you names..............:oo:
Chris, I'm sure he's referring to the other Sydney girls. I haven't had time to buy a skirt or anything.(edit: That's not entirely true. I bought three school tunics but not in my size ) Signed the lease today, enrolled the daughter at school then went for a swim at Dee Why beach. I think I'm going to like it here. :D

Just a little bit of clarification as to what is for sale as in my attempt to head off Brett's scurrilous comments, and in which endeavour I failed miserably, I may have misled a teeney weeney bit. The saws for sale start from pic number four onwards. They include:
Disston D-8s rip and crosscut
Disston D-23
Disston D-42s
Atkins No.65
Disston D5
Abbeydale
Simonds No.95 (modified  )

Brett, I won't be there as I can't sit in a car for that length of time. My back looks like I have been laying in the sun for a week due to radiation burns.

Edit: just checked RFS site and it has changed from "Out of control" to "Under control" in the last hour.

As forecast, sunny and cool, and no wind atm.
No choppers around which probably indicates the fire is much less than it was.

THANK YOU LOLA AND BRETT!!!
The day was almost perfect, blue sky's, sun shining, smoke in the air [and not just the smokers], water bombing helicopters in the distance and a mob of woodworkers shooting the breeze, enjoying the company of fellow forumites.............there was some "show & tell", some "bring and buy", an auction, good food, good company and great hosts.....who could ask for more....
WHAT A TOP DAY...
You just got to love this forum; it's the people who make it and what a pleasure to met some again plus put some new faces and names together while having a chat..... I even saw some hands on testing and repairs... well done everyone!!!
Here are a few photos from the day...enjoy.....cheers, crowie

Thanks for all the pics crowie - good stuff!
Thank you to all for coming and making the day a success again - particular the long distance travellers: Bushmiller from the Hunter via Toowoomba, NCArcher from the Hunter (for a short while only), and Repliconics all the way from Mildura, which is quite an effort!
Noo then. Pac Man. I seem to rather more the poorer of blue masking tape, and this would appear to have your name "written all over it". Mr Archer claims to "know nothingk" but I can tell guilty giggling laughter when I hear it, particular when he advises me that I "may be discovering labels for some time to come".
And it's not a Drill Press, it's a Drill Deck.

Brett and Lola managed to organise a perfect day weather-wise just to get things going, then everything else seemed to fall into place flawlessly. There was plenty of good food (I know what Brett and Lola will be having for lunch and dinner for the next few days!) and even more socialising. It was great to meet a few masters of our hobbies, and many thanks to those who brought some interesting old tools for display and trade. Thankyou to Crowie for the photos, and to all who made the day so enjoyable just by being there.
See Ya at the next GTG,
Alan...

Lola and Brett it was a fantastic day and so good of you to open up your home for this gathering. The ability to meet with like minded people in person can be a little difficult at times. Especially with the diversity of interest with this gathering that was there today.
Brett I also found it interesting with the creative labeling of the contents of the draws and having to rely solely with your memory. I am sure next time the puzzle will be more creative.
......And it's not a Drill Press, it's a Drill Deck.
Ahh I knew I should have asked you what it was called. Next time I will be a little more diligent. :q:U

A wonderfull day in the rare mountain air. The bush fires behaved themselves and the slight bit of smoke at the start soon dispersed. Long conversations on planes ,saws and other woodworkey stuff as well as meeting up with fellow travellers.
A big thanks to Lola and Brett for hosting the gathering and thanks also to crowie for taking the photos.
