I have been reading allot about woods and wood tools but very little has been said about wood software; in particular, sheet layout optimization and cost estimating software. I being using CutListPlus for many years and I have the latest version (2005) which provides just about all is needed to quickly generate the cutting diagrams of plywood, MDF, calculate edge banding requirements and lumber, calculate exactly how much material to buy for your project including the hardware and also, you can plug-in items markups, taxes, time cost, in many formats and also keeps inventories of your materials, etc.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

CutList Plus is software that helps woodworkers manage parts lists and quickly generate cutting diagrams, cutting lists, bill of materials, project cost estimates and proposals. Also it will figure how much lumber and plywood you will need for your project, and what it will cost. It can work in metric, centimeters, millimeters, foot, inches, nominal thickness, board-feed and has the capability to switch from actual dimension to any other since the system will covert the measurements to your personal requirements. Also, cost can be input in any currency + many other features.

You can download the latest version for a 30 days trial to bridgewooddesign.com or cutlistplus.com

It is highly recommended for those who are cost oriented, for those who want to keep a detail record of demission, parts list and hardware used in a particular project.

Me and my buddy have been looking at Cutlist but we're not sure if it's worth $129. It seems a little tough to figure out.
