View Full Version : Natural Look Sealer For Rustic Pallet Stool

Have knocked up a stool from a recycled pallet and would like to seal it to give a bit of protection ( it will sit on a covered verandah with morning sun and some rain when windy ).

Have tried the orange shellac but that changes the colour too much.

Have hosed the raw stool and that is the finish I would hope to achieve.

Some helpful advice for a learner from a few wise-men here would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Fred

Oil it. Plenty of options there.

Thanks burruboy, however the 'plenty of options' is my dilemma.
Can you make a suggestion ( there are so many oil finishes ) that will maintain this light rustic look?
Am adding a couple of photos.

Just my thought, but how about decking oil. Easy to apply and maintain. :; PAUL.

There is and outdoor furniture oil (feast watson). pust plenty of that on it (4 coats) the put a wax on it.

When it starts to look a bit shabby use wax and grease remover and re-oil and re-wax.

Oiling will darken it, but not much more than the colour change from hosing it. Try a patch on the inside first. There's nothing wrong with good old linseed for a start.

Thank you burruboy, The Bleeder and Hooked Up for you input.

Have gone with the linseed as have some in stock and the result is very good. Did not darken it much at all.
