G'day all

The fourth BM GTG will be on Sunday 2nd March from 10.00am.

FORUM GET TOGETHER:

Sunday 2nd March
from 10.00 until we run out of yak (the verbal kind)
Bring what you want to eat, or you can share in Thai/Chinese as we did last time
THE BBQ WILL NOT BE ACTIVE
BYO liquids, although we could probably supply drinking water
Bring a collapsible chair (although don't worry if you are coming by train)
Regardless of your local weather, bring a jacket or similar

No theme, but maybe you want to bring a small tool or two for Show & Tell. Something that's hard to get, rare, super-useful, or that you have made yourself.

SELL & TRADE TABLE If you've got something you want to trade or sell then bring it along.

We will supply:

Coffee & Tea
A cake
An address (I'll send a PM in due course)

Open for discussion is another option (which won't suit everyone of course) - get the local Chinese or Thai to deliver some tucker and we
chip in to cover it (I'll use different suppliers this time). The BBQ idea is a bit of a PITA where it's located, especially given how such common sense people like to clog up that walkway , and it has to be cleaned, yadda.

Cheers

Brett

For the GTG virgins: there are usually people coming from places such as Bathurst, Jerilderie, Wollongong, Southern Highlands, Camden/Campbelltown, Hunter, and of course various parts of Sydney. We've even had a couple from Melbourne and Queensland.

So, if you are thinking that it may be a bit of a drive, but you are interested, then put a question up in here - you may be able to score a lift. Everyone who has made the long distance effort has said it was well worthwhile as it's great fun catching up with the members. Attendance is usually ~24.

Greg Ward
7th February 2014, 07:42 AM
OK.
Looked at my Sydney trip plans from the farm and unless something crops up, I plan to make this one.
Pat wants some wet camphor 310x310x100 turning blanks, so I can bring those for him if he makes it and I'll also bring a boot load of various timbers as well.
I have extras if anyone ones some 100m thick turning blanks, but they are wet......, I could bring boards or slabs on the roof racks, but don't plan to do so unless anyone wants anything specific.
pm me if you want any special timbers bought along.
See you there
Greg

LUNCH:
I need to know whether you will bring your own lunch, or whether you want some Thai or Chinese. Last time it worked out to be about $7 a head

DANSIH OIL:
I can get a four litre tin of Organoil Danish Oil at the local Home Hardware for approx $90 (I forget the exact number) which makes it about $22-24 per litre. I'd like 1½-2 litres, so if anyone else wants a litre or two then post into here and I'll get it happening (bring a container with you) It may be available elsewhere for less, but when I checked Bunnings Penrith it turned out that they don't stock it.

G'Day Greg, I'm hoping to attend as per my note above.
You mentioned you could bring some timber to the GTG, and while I don't want to inconvenience you, plus I don't want much; I'd surely appreciate some small-ish "OFF CUTs" of anything with nice figure for toy making please.
If this suits you but no sweat if you aren't able to, thank you.

Change of plans again, my son and family are moving to Cowra, supposed to have got the keys today but found out this afternoon the estate agent has screwed the whole thing up and now there is a 3 day delay and the purchacer of his place is moving in tomorrow, hence son and family are now homeless for 3 days.

So we are now chockers at our place tonight, moving everything to the shed at Cowra until keys are obtained, no one available to help at Cowra so I'm it with son and wife and 3 grandchildren to unload the lot ourselves. His boss needs the truck and hired container back by Monday morning.

Thats life isn't it, so one way or other, see you all next GTG

Thank you Brett and Lola and all the Forum members who attended the GTG.
A wet and foggy drive up the hill, and a wet drive down the hill didn't really dampen a great day. It was terrific having a chat with so many interesting guys and gals, and seeing Brett's set-up. I must admit feeling a bit embarrased to go back into my cluttered shed after seeing such an organised and neat workshop (or is it a shed?).
I have taken away plenty of inspiration (and a jar of honey, thanks Ross) and encourage everyone else to take advantage of attending a GTG of forum members anywhere near you.You will learn heaps, and meet some lovely people.

… and another thank you to Brett and Lola. It was a great day in typical Katoomba weather.
Brett, i smuggled in 7 grams of sawdust and secreted it in your shed! Yours is probably the only working space where the 7 grams would stand out!

Fletty

He will have noticed. It is probably an offence in that region of Katoomba :D.

Paul

Me thinks we have a mystery on our hands....
a twin or a clone or something worst.....
It was Katoomba on a mist damp day.....
Can we really trust a mob of blokes who like to spend time in the shed playing with wood and expensive tools?????
