Just wondering if anyone else plays board games with their family? In this age of technology we find it a really good way to get our family to interact and spend time together, and it also teaches the kids the value of playing without winning (although they win as often as we do). Our favourites at the moment are Settlers of Catan and Dominion, and we also play Carcassonne.

Don't play monopoly or they'll be into your super before you have time to think.:D

We've just started having a few games of Chess with our 7 year old, would you believe. He seems to enjoy it.

monopoly for the money aspect, always overpay rent so they have to work out change.
Domino's so they can work out how many points they won by.
Blackjack, at 10 cents a chip I hate it when they win 30 bucks of me, More counting.

In the car I make them multiply the first and last numbers off the number plates coming towards us, then they have to tell me the number to round it up to a multiple of ten.

I taught my boys to play chess when they were about 8 and 5. The younger one still likes to play. He's 10 now and he occasionally beats me (I'm no great shakes myself). Another game we like is Blokus. Great for spacial logic, and age-agnostic.

We still do. We play monopoly and cluedo during holidays. It is fun family time and I don’t believe it should change. We played 1 game every day during this Xmas and NY.

One thing I hate about monopoly the number of times I go past ‘Go’ but only to land on ‘Tax’. It happens to me and only me every second time. :~:~:~

Now do you have mustard in the kitchen on a piece of steak? :D :D

Wongo, we played games every day during the Christmas break as well. My kids get bored with Monopoly though. I strongly recommend Dominion. We've spent 100's of hours this last year playing it.

Just wanted to add that over this past weekend we've been playing a new game called Munchkin, which my oldest boy bought. It is a lot of fun. The rules seem complicated when you read them but once you start playing it is a lot simpler and the game flows quite quickly. We also played a new expansion to Settlers of Catan which was very good.

Scrabble.

Plus we play another game using number thingys that look like domino's but with numbers on them, friend's bring that one round, cannot for the like of me remember what it is, but you can play it with people who don't have a common language, did this in the eighties visiting the in-laws in Germany. My German mother in-law didn't speak a word of English; my German is as good as her English. :D
