G'day all

The third BM GTG will be on Sunday 3rd Nov from 10.30am.

FORUM GET TOGETHER:

Sunday 3rd November

from 10.30 until we run out of yak (the verbal kind)
Bring what you want for the BBQ

BYO liquids

Bring a collapsible chair (although don't worry if you are coming by train)
Regardless of your local weather, bring a jacket or similar (we had a fire going all day Xmas & Boxing Days)

No theme, but maybe you want to bring a small tool or two for Show & Tell. Something that's hard to get, rare, super-useful, or that you have made yourself.

SELL & TRADE TABLE If you've got something you want to trade or sell then bring it along.

We will supply:

Salads
Coffee & Tea
A cake
An address (I'll send a PM in due course)

Now, regarding the BBQ: ozhunter has actually purchased it (in fact before the last GTG) but he hasn't picked it up yet. The intention last time was to let it cool down and then load it onto his ute but he was only able to attend for a very short while (his sheep were in need of a feed or zummint). So, I'm still looking at it every time I go out for a fag, and Nursie is still sitting on it scoping the birdies. Presumably I'm still going to be looking at it for another 6 weeks.....but if not I'll let you know to bring sangas instead.

Open for discussion is another option (which won't suit everyone of course) - get the local Chinese or Thai to deliver some tucker and we chip in to cover it. The BBQ idea is a bit of a PITA where it's located, especially given how such common sense people like to clog up that walkway , and it has to be cleaned, yadda.

Actually, the more I think about it the more I like the non-BBQ idea because Lola and I don't get much actual GTG time running around sorting out food - have to catch up on what happened in the thread that night.....missed crowie's train the first time...missed fletty's box the second time.

If anyone is interested in half a litre or more of Camelia Oil - I'm thinking of buying a 5 Litre container from that mob in Tempe and splitting it up, but the cost of posting kinda negates the savings, so you could bring a bottle to fill - say the word. The same could be done with a large bottle of Titebond II, and probably various other things I suppose (10m rolls of Colour Coded Grit from Mogy e.g). Other suggestions welcome.

Cheers
Brett

I know most of the world works during the week and have these things called weekends to share their friends and fellow woodies, but sadly not me. My paying job is running a wedding reception centre and so Sundays are a workday for me - sorry fellas. Have a cuppa for me. I'll definitely try to figure a way to get a bottle to you for some of the Camelia oil though. :2tsup:

Tony

If you are driving a Lambo and I have to follow I'm afraid there won't be much of a load on the trayback. I couldn't keep up last time when you were in the 4WD. That was mainly because on the slalom section along the Putty I had to stop every fifty bends to re-secure the load :D.

Another problem is that if SHMBO is with me I won't be able to get the finger indents out of the passenger seat .

I am hoping to get along but will have to confirm. I'm interested in the Camelia Oil and Glue. A little oil for body parts and some sniffing sounds like an interesting alternative to an otherwise banal existence .

Don't forget that you can always take glue/oil back for someone else who can't come to the GTG. For example, waveink would like some oil dropped off at ~Parramatta. And FWIW, Camelia Oil is really good as a lubricant for sharpening on diamond plates, W&D etc.

My father used to watch TV and he would fall asleep while watching. We did not worry until he started to snore and we could not hear the TV. :) I just naturally thought that others would do that same. As for me I have never slept while watching TV but very hard to talk to me while watching TV.

All good here in Katoomba Dave, but plenty of smoke. Much worse over rustynail's way in Bilpin, and down past crowie at Springwood.

We drove out to Jenolan Caves today for a Cello concert, and we could see fires very close to the hwy coming back through My Victoria (because it was dark. They looked quite contained. The smoke had actually penetrated right into the caves.

Tomorrow will be a test - the wind is set to come back apparently, along with hotter weather again. There's been naff all rain here in the last 3 months.

DaveTTC
19th October 2013, 09:31 PM
Thanks Brett

I've been asked if I am available to be on call for a strike team else where in the state. I assume they mean your region.

The last fire I was on I was there for about 14 days.

I was a little sheepish about posting this so I did run it past Brett first and he was comfortable with it. As he mentioned in a previous post there will be items for sale and I have a few that can be seen in the pic below. Some items are brand new, some have been only very lightly used and the augers are positively old :D .

I didn't think it was appropriate to go into too much detail which could be seen as turning the thread into a bargain basement affair and also risk incurring the wrath of the moderators. Everything will be priced on the day and anybody is welcome to send me a PM if they are particularly interested in anything. That assumes your eyes are good enough to pick out the goodies.

291713

Also I have cut some timber and will have pen blanks, knife scales and knife blocks (for knife handles) available for sale.

291714

They won't be the horrible jumble you see above, but grouped in small lots at spare change prices. Any money from the sale of timber parts will go to a local (to the Blue Mountains) Bush Fire Brigade as I think anybody who has followed this thread will be aware of the huge task it is to combat a fire raging out of control. Dave and others do a magnificent job and it seems fitting to help a little.

We will be setting off tomorrow morning around 0700 and won't be easily contactable from then onwards so any enquiries will need to be made before then. I will have a last squiz just before I leave.

Looking forward to meeting up again with old friends and maybe some new faces too :) .

THANK YOU BRETT & LOLA FOR ANOTHER TOP GATHERING....
Your hospitality was, again, superb especially the dessert and the chocolates...
I enjoyed the day this time being able to sit a talk/get to know a few of the forum blokes as well as catch up with some old mates...
The shop bought lunch was good and thank you Brett & Lola for the rice....
Special mention to the "sparky" on the spot who got the electrics back working again...
We needed the light to see Brett's new shed floor but this time some of us actually saw "sawdust" on it; BUT it was quickly swept away...
This time, there was a good number of ladies [good lookin Sheila's as Lola & I discussed...lol]...
The buy & sell table seemed to be a good trade; as did Paul's {bushmillers] pen blanks, with those processes going to the RFS.

Peter thanks for sharing those with us, good to see some familiar faces and those far away people who seem to just keep coming back.........glutens for punishment I guess.

My day was productive with some sidetracking required but all on track.

Thanks for the pics crowie, good stuff.

I think Tony may have left his chair here......and the left over magazines.

Thanks to all for coming along, it's what makes the day a success, particularly the very-long-distance people (DaveTTC and Bushmiller - great to meet Paul's wife Leanne as well).

Good to see some new faces as well: turnerted, rwbuild, groeneaj (although Andy's face is well familiar from other meetings).

I finally made it to a GTG today and now regret not getting to the previous ones.

Great host and hostess and good to meet people in person. Will get to next one and chat with those I didnt get a chance to today.

Me thinks fence furniture has just as much fun creating his man cave as any produced in it. I picked up some great ideas.

Your artistic flare to take mundane material/items and turn it into a character filled aesthetically pleasing workshop is to be admired
but to be so neat and tidy is a bit of a worry

Thanks everyone for a great day

Thanks everyone for a great dayCheers Ray, and you're very welcome. You're quite right, I did have a lot of fun with the original "build" :D

And it's not a matter of being neat & tidy - it's forced upon me by the small size of the shed. Jeez, I was even able to leave some dust on the floor (proof of production) until around midday. In truth I only vacced it up because it was MDF dust and I was concerned for the members health. :;

Did anyone get a pic of that dust? I do have a couple of dozen witnesses, but I have some reservations about how forthcoming they might be with the truth.....

I was gonna say .... No pic - it didn't happen.

You sure that the alleged dust did not fall out the mini cyclone? ;)

Another 175 km and I should be spooning my wife. Any sooner and it's the wrong woman

Home now. Had a great time.

Met a few new people. Was chewing the cud non stop and there were plenty I did I not get to spend the time with I would have liked to,others I only met when they left & and a few I did not even get to say g'day to at all.

2 days would have been great

Came home with some auger bits, pen blanks, bit of reading and some other odds and ends. I'll have to talk to Bret about bringing the wife and kids next time ???
