Always put the air bleed screw back into the top of the filter cartridge before turning the pump on, particularly if you have to lean accross the top of the filter to get to the switch.

Really no point in any photos Alex - anyway it all happened in a moment.

I'll tell you how it works...

I was cleaning out the bsket in the pump. To relieve pressure and make it easy to get the top off the pump, I removed the air bleed screwon the top of the cartridge filter. Cleaned the basket, replaced itscrewed onthe top of the pump. I guessed it was a good idea to check for leaks so I leaned over the filter and turned on the pump. The sound of air rushing out was my first clue. Then the filter container filled with water and the pumpforced a jet of water through the hole where the bleed screw should have been. Hit me right in the belly, up the chest under my chin, half soaked bynow. I jumped back. That allowed the jet of water to hit the corrugated roofing over the area which spread the water like a very, very, very heavy rainstorm backdown all over me. The only way to stop it of course was to lean back over the fountain and turn it off. Soaked. Head to foot - I had to empty my boots.

A couple of hours later after getting warm and dry, I decided to continue with my pool maintenance program and remove the chlorinater for cleaning. Did that, relaced it, turned the pump on.

Guess what.

Exactly the same again.

Twice in a couple of hours.

Once , you can put down to forgetful, twice has to go in the completely and utterly stupid box.

Once , you can put down to forgetful, twice has to go in the completely and utterly stupid box. I agree. I've only ever done it once a day.

At least you bled the air out of the system - twice.

Just don't do what my aunt did.

Bought a bottle of winter conditioner for the pool, stood at the pool steps and poured it straight in instead of reading the instructions that said pour the conditioner in to a bucket of water and then pour the diluted mix in to the pool over a large area.
Needless to say, the conditioner stained the steps.
Aunt goes back to pool shop complains and gets GIVEN a $40 bottle of stain remover - this time followed the instructions and dabbed some stain remover on a rag to rub at the stain.
The stain remover didn't work so back to the shop and more complaining - she gets GIVEN a second bottle.
The second bottle didn't work so back to the shop but the guy had had enough and kicked her out the shop.

She did actually read the instructions on the stain remover, however the stain remover maker had assumed that draining the pool goes without saying.

Yep, she had been putting the stain remover on the rag and then putting the rag under water to rub at the stain.

She is my aunt by marriage and a walking vidication of every nasty thing ever said about blondes - this woman makes a 4x2 plank look like a Mensa candidate.
