Hi all was just wondering if this would be ok to use as a chopping board finish??? Paraffin Oil Value Plus (http://www.vetnpetdirect.com.au/VPPARA#.UhxTuKYazCQ) I know it's from a vet website which makes me feel funny about it but hey it says 100% mineral oil. Thanks.

The answer is yes but the question is why?

You say it's a chopping board, in no time flat it will be marked by the blades scratching it.

Paraffin oil is fine. Use it regularly for chopping boards. Usually two coats for new work. You dont need to put it on regularly.
A wipe over every 3 or 4 months is adequate, but it will not go rancid that is the plus.
The vegetable type oils/olive oil will go rancid and get into the cracks etc. In the meantime
wipe over with soap and water and dry and it will be fine. Make sure that you buy
chemists quality oil,. It should only cost about $5 and lasts forever. Drillit.

I wanted to see what other uses one can use the Paraffin wax for and after the below....not sure if I would use it. Apart from the food contact, wouldn't the coating wear off with the washing in warm water, 37 degrees is not hot?

Paraffin wax is a white or colorless soft solid that is derived from petroleum and consists of a mixture of hydrocarbon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrocarbon) molecules containing between twenty and forty carbon atoms. It is solid at room temperature and begins to melt above approximately 37 °C (99 °F);[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paraffin_wax#cite_note-1) its boiling point is >370 deg C.[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paraffin_wax#cite_note-2) Common application for paraffin wax are lubrication, electrical insulation, and candles.

Foodsafe Plus (http://www.ubeaut.com.au/FS+.htm) :aro-l: Web Page Info Sheet :aro-r: HERE (http://www.ubeaut.com.au/pdf/14a.pdf)

IHR Geelong (http://butchersblocks.com.au/Home.php) Manufactures Butcher blocks, chopping boards and more and swears by Traditional Wax (http://www.ubeaut.com.au/trad.html). Master Chef "The professionals" series 2013 used his boards benches and butcher blocks, which were such a big hit that Marco Pierre White ordered one of his Butcher Blocks for his own restaurant.
