I'm in Mt Beauty and up at Falls Ck is the only international class cross-country ski race on the Southern hemisphere calendar. Was run this morning.
Attracts 1000+ participants and is a big part of the local economy.
The regular problem is lack of cover. The race is run over 42km. Locals and participants pray for good cover but it seems Hughie is both colour-blind and geographically challenged.
Yesterday this is what he sent, on the road up:
282257
The local roadworkers got a lane cleared overnight. Tricky as there was a lot of pressure to open it for the thousands of volunteers, spectators, participants and officials to get up, and nowhere nearby to dump the rock and just to the left (outside the frame) is a power line pole.
I'm a volunteer for setting up and got stuck on the uphill side yesterday. Was generously accommodated overnight at the Howman's Gap Alpine Centre.
