Done a basic square coffee table in Tas Blackwood when I lived in Hobart and have also constructed stairs and kitchens.

I recently bought a 300 kg Bloodwood outdoor table and bench for pennies (didn't suit the owner of a new house) and spent quite a few hours dismantling and finishing table. Has blackwood, oak and myrtle in the base. I want to sell it, she wants to keep it now... Finished with Danish oil and wax. Problem is the wax finish just marks, probably haven't applied it right...

Picking up some dressed blackwood today to make a dining table, as well as a slab of cypress pine, about 50cm x 2m, so will see what I can do with that.

Any advice on finishing the bloodwood table and the one I am about to start in blackwood would be very appreciated.

Hello to all, I am a real newbie, but keen to learn and listen.

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum "Chris".
You should find quite a few forum members in North Queensland.
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Very nice table you built.
Make sure you keep showing off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork.
Cheers crowie

Thank you so much Crowie. Have already realised mistakes in finishing table, so will keep reading about how to do it properly. Also bought a nice Bosch ROS today. Will post more pics as I progress my apprenticeship as am in expert company methinks...

Thanks JJF. Hope, in time, I can post advice to people as I have a lot to learn. Going to be somewhat passive until I feel I have something to contribute.

When I start on dining table (blackwood), I will commence a project thread which I hope people will enjoy and provide advice as I go.

Regards from sunny Cairns

Chris, nice blackwood

Welcome aboard

If you want to meet a few from the forum and some from other places who share a passion for Wood Working you may like to check this out.

http://www.woodworkforums.com/f25/wwjj-woodworkers-jerilderie-jaunt-feb-2014-a-170839/

At this time it looks like we will have a variety of competent woodworkers there with skills in flat work, wood turning, carving and perhaps milling.
Opportunity to spend one on one with some of these and whoever else is there and willing to share there time and expertise.

Im hoping Neil from ubeaut will be there too, there will be plenty of good advice on finishing.

The invitation for you and whoever comes - bring some tools, bring some wood (these are optional but desired if possible) you can sell, swap, work with it or just watch others.

Mandatory if you come - a smile, willing spirit, desire to have fun learn and enjoy yourself.

Hope to see you there, if cant make it we'll see you round the forum and who knows maybe at some other event

Take Care
