Hi everyone,
I'm new here and pretty much new to Melbourne having only been here for about a year and a half, previously from the US but originally from the UK.
I'm here to make friends and chat about my love of woodworking. I've been woodworking for a while but I have only just gotten around to rebuilding my garage workshop after the move here in which I had to leave most or my tools behind, that was a sad day.
Any help anyone can give me on where to begin finding the tools I need and where the best woodworking shops are in and around Melbourne would be appreciated.
Of course when I say tools I mean everything from table saws to clamps, I really don't have much right now.
Anyway I'm glad I found the forum and hope to hear from you all soon.
Hope you're having a great weekend.

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum "Andy".
There are a heap of forum members in and around Melbourne so you should be able to hook up with quite a few.
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork.
Cheers crowie

Welcome to the forum.

Now that is a bit of a pity to leave all tools behind. I might suggest that you post the question again in this sub-forum about acquiring tools. WOODWORK - GENERAL (http://www.woodworkforums.com/f11/)

And keep an eye on the Market place just in case something comes up in your area. THE MARKET PLACE (http://www.woodworkforums.com/f220/)

Andy,

Welcome aboard. I have a good mate on another forum who hails from the UK but currently lives in the States, trying to talk him into coming to Australia. As for tools another place to try if you dont mind second hand is www.Gumtree.au

If you want to meet a few from the forum and some from other places who share a passion for Wood Working you may like to check this out.

At this time it looks like we will have a variety of competent woodworkers there with skills in flat work, wood turning, carving and perhaps milling.
Opportunity to spend one on one with some of these and whoever else is there and willing to share there time and expertise.

The invitation for you and whoever comes - bring some tools, bring some wood (these are optional but desired if possible) you can sell, swap, work with it or just watch others.

Mandatory if you come - a smile, willing spirit, desire to have fun learn and enjoy yourself.

Hope to see you there, if cant make it we'll see you round the forum and who knows maybe at some other event

Take Care

Thanks everyone again, I'm definitely looking into a woodworking club to join, I'll post pics of some I my work soon.
Dave, good to here you have a pommy mate in the US, I spent 12 years there before moving here to Australia. I've been looking on gumtree as well, so far I have a few hand tools from it, my table saw and other pieces I really want new if I can.
Chat soon everyone.

If you are not in a hurry the timber and wood working show will be a good place to pick up new tools on sale. That is in Octobers think. Of corse there will likely be sales for end of financial year about now too.

I'm in the bush so miss most of these sales unless I'm looking for something special.

Regards
