I want to know what tulipwood (hopefully the kind I've got anyway) looks like in finished form.
And uno in google how you can click images and it shows you just pictures. Can I do that here so I can look through the pictures of members finished work and find a piece with a colour similar to the timber I have.
All I get with a google images search of 'tulipwood nsw' is a bunch of leaves and flowers.

One thing that google doesn't have is the ability to search by image name. With nearly 3000 images uploaded this would be handy to have especially if a member wants to be able to refer or link to a previous image they posted on the forum.
The way I do this is try to remember what year I took the photo in. Then I look up the image on my hard drive where they are filed by year and then topic. When I locate the photo I look at the date, then I go back to my forum attachments (under settings) and locate the image by the date.
Does anyone have a better way of doing this?

The example in the link above doesn't work for you Bob?
It did for me
I typed
img_5842 site:woodworkforums.com
in to Google and it came up with 2 links for me.

Ah ha, it doesn't work via the Googel image searching page but it does work on the general search page!

Apricotripper, I've found that to get images of a timber in Google and avoid all of the 'leaves' results, add 'timber' to the search. ie Tulipwood timber: https://www.google.com.au/search?q=tulipwood+timber&biw=1024&bih=418&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=k2qxUa2SLIf1kQWHioGgCw&sqi=2&ved=0CDIQsAQ

thanks Steve, .... I'd got a similar sort of search result, but the timbers from that search arn't like what I've got. Too many types, and a lot seem international.... eg mine hasn't got red streaks in it.
I figured a image search of this site, being close to home, would show something more like mine. I like to see complete pieces as well, not just sample shots....
part of the query also is just to find out if it is indeed tulipwood. all the little assumptions, embellishments, misunderstandings, salesmanship white lies etc,,, seem to more often than not add up to complete ########, I've noticed, when it comes to timber ID.
anyway..

Don't know if you've seen this thread Jake but might be same as what you've got.

I have found something that will help. Go to Google images and enter your search string. After the page has finished loading hit the end key to get to the bottom of the page, if the images are still loading you may have to repeat the end key a few times. At the bottom are a few links, select "switch to basic version" and repeat the end key to get to the bottom of the page. You will now find a new selection of links so select "advanced search". In the advanced search page you can refine your search and select a domain name to restrict your search which is pretty handy for what Jake wants. Why Google ever mucked around with the advanced search link defies logic.

The 'Advanced Search' is still there on the normal Google Images search results page, under the button that looks like a cog, (Options), at the top RHS of the page.
Edit: Limiting the image search to this site yields: https://www.google.com.au/search?as_st=y&tbm=isch&hl=en&as_q=tulipwood&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&imgsz=&imgar=&imgc=&imgcolor=&imgtype=&cr=&as_sitesearch=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.woodworkforums.com&safe=images&as_filetype=&as_rights=&biw=1024&bih=418&sei=ASyzUbryHuKWiAfK4YH4DA

I didn't know that. I have been using the link at the bottom of the page that appears after the initial search. Your way is far shorter, thanks.

I only just noticed it myself.
The results look to be pretty much what Jake was after, too. I noticed that most of the Tulipwood in those results looks the same.
