G'day all.
After going to the blue mountains get together I thought it would be awesome to have one at home.
I'm hoping we might have a variety of woodworkers who might like to bring some tools and wood and just have some fun doing whatever they do. Depending on numbers there are a few options for location and a number of possibilities for accommodation.
This will take place on Australia Day Weekend Friday to Sunday. This could be a pay per head including all meals. I'm involved with the local chamber of commerce and the Jerilderie Mini Rail (possible venue) and have contacts with the lions and apex clubs and also race course committee (another possible venue). If it ends up being a smallish get together another option is my property.

Jerilderie is on the Newel Highway.
Please register your interest. If you have any further thoughts ideas or requests let me know.
Regards
Dave

G'Day Dave,
It's a long ways off so will have to keep the thread going to keep it in front of everyone..
Maybe a "bump" every few weeks could be in order.
Being were you are you could attract folk from SA, Vic & NSW/ACT [and maybe even the very keen Queenslander...
Cheers, crowie

Yup, I'm in. Reckon we could hire a mini bus with a trailer, and get some heads down there. Bring a tent, sleeping bag, yadda, and drink Ned's health. Cheeky bugger.

A little update - this is my main focus site but I have posted on two other forums which are predominantly overseas.
It seems we have one from the US who is considering making this on his todo list & possibly another who might come if he can time it with a business trip.
If you have tools timber or other items of interest you would like to swap or sell bring these along also.
Keen to develop a list as quick as possible, I understand life happens and what we say now may change then. The more that come the better the event may be.

accommodation options (http://www.jerilderie.nsw.gov.au/index.php?option=com_jentlacontent&view=category&id=1318&Itemid=1829) for those who do not want to rough it (camp etc)
Budget motel is ok, as for the room next to the one with disabled access. That part of the building runs east west, it is the only room that does not have the rising or setting sun. Of course it has a north facing wall that does get the sun all day. The veranda on units 1-6 are on the east side this sheltering morning sun so you only get the setting sun in units 1-6. Might be 1-7. Not 100%
There is the Jerilderie caravan park that also has a motel and there is the Caltex service station that has a motel. The other motel I'll just google now - Jerilderie Motor Inn. This is the one closest to the action and they are just sprucing it up now. It is the only one with a pool.
There will likely be an option to camp on site where we have our show.

Just for the record all 3 possible venues I'm considering for the event are within 5 minute walk of the local swimming hole. One of the venues is on a peninsula on the creek. May not be a beach bit it's water.

If you went with the fairways you'll find Sue is very pleasant and it is nice spot. There is a swimming pool there as well which I believe is available for use. That will be something you might like to use that time of year.
If you went the do book in I think there are 2 rooms but only one has an ensuite. You may wish to double check the facilities there if you choose that one.

I'm thinking of just taking my swag for the sleeping part and making Neds armour in wood with axe and hatchet for something to do, you reckon that would be ok Dave. Probably need to be able to organise some suitable red gum or other eucalypt to use up there to do it and someone to shoot some holes in it, you reckon that could happen?

I'm thinking of just making the armour, to scale and thought a log with a wide pipe running through it would take the work out of shaping the parts a bit with limited time. If I can get the time I'll make up some templates to follow. Maybe shooting it was a bit far fetched so I'm thinking drilling the holes and burning them out with a hot poker or something or other. The armour parts could be fixed together with fencing wire and rusty bolts. I'm also thinking that an angle grinder with a couple of shaping attachments would be a better way to shape the parts but that relies on power which I'm not sure will be available. Anyway, it could be a good thing to have a go at and be even better if it included the involvement of others.

there will be power available.
I would love to see some collaborative work such as this. Where possible I would like people to bring tools with the goal of doing some woodwork. There may be some tools available to share etc.
Another thing I'm thinking of doing is getting some big poles that can be carved.
There is a replica model of the suit of armour here in Jerilderie so you can probably use that as a refference, we can take as many pics as you like and take measurements.

Maths & Money aside, I still want to be able to go to the T&WWW Show.
Steve
This may not quite be on par with the T&WWW shows but should be enjoyable non the less your more than welcome to attend.
Years ago someone decided to start a ute muster, the Deni ute muster has moved from strength to strength.
the Jerilderie Jaunt could do just the same, Ive posted here but Neil has not commented on it yet, Ive contacted but his inbox may have been full and ive PM'ed Jim.
The success of the ute muster came down to not the organisation though it and advertising played a part. Success came down to those that attended
Success of the T&WWW shows comes down largely to the support of the public - us
As Neil said earlier, if he is hardly covering costs of accommodation and food one must question whether the effort is worth it.
Neil
If there were a swap meet section - big area, where people could not only buy and trade but bring their tools, work demonstrate as well you may find people rushing to you and jim and other store holders to buy equipment I know insurance issues can become an issue to but there are ways around that

How long is this running for again Dave?
Just trying to get it set in my head, don't really want to replicate the armour thing exactly, the copying thing has been done, and donner how many times before, would rather produce something in the spirit of Ned, it's hard to steer away from the armour though, thinking the breast plate should have breasts, just throwing a few thoughts out ok.

But truth is I fear for my life http://www.woodturnersunlimited.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif down there in amongst the Kelly descendants and supporters . You see when I went to school and all history I have read regarding constabulary who were in pursuit of Kelly and his gang one surname kept cropping up.............. Sanderson http://www.woodturnersunlimited.com/forum/images/smilies/music.gif Now of late this seems to have vanished off the records Ned Kelly - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ned_Kelly) StiLl I'll ere on the side of caution even though no descendant of mine as far as I know was involved these Irishmen just never seem to forget a name. Considering I and my family were 13,000 miles away they seem to think thats close enough.

Jerilderie Letter Event has been held over till Easter 2015 - what that means for us???
there are a few options
Keep things as it is for Feb 7,8 & 9
Postpone or cancell
Bring it forward into the holidays
I dont want to cancel, I believe only one has booked accommodation and I will check with them their flexibility. Im good friends with Sue from the B&B where he is staying and am sure we can organise a switch of time if that suits others better.
So please - a little feed back if anyone has any preference or if you are flexible. If I dont hear back I will start to message everyone individually to see what suits the majority.

That's what I thought it would be, just won't be any other events going on simultaneously. The Ned Kelly thing has been postponed and won't even be held on the date as it sits presently. Either way, us woodies can have a good time.

Well has anyone bothered to ask Ned's newly placed remains what they think of this?

Well I was at the meeting when it was decided. The question was asked,"should we ask Ned how he feels about the date being changed?"
Someone pointed to a poster of Ned on the wall and there it was, his famous quote - "such is life"

If we were to come Easter would be out for no other reason than its Easter.......family and traffic the reasons.
I agree with FF The Letter is the attraction as well as woodwork.

If I dont hear back I will start to message everyone individually to see what suits the majority.
hi Dave!
I am happy with any date that is set :U
Being my very first woodworkers get-together, I am so excited I can't wait to come, meet you and everyone, share ideas and learn alot.
Accommodation-wise, I was just gonna rough it camping out near water somewhere.
Whichever date that is set, I will make time to come!:2tsup:

Australia Day weekend 2014, after some deliberation I am putting forward that the Jerilderie Jaunt wood workers weekend might come forward to the above long weekend.
As mentioned earlier the Letter Event Committee has postponed the Ned Kelly thing to Easter 2015. By coming forward 2 weeks back into January it may make it easier for those with kids if they want to bring them along also.
For those who don't have the luxury of retirement or flexible work schedule etc the long weekend may be a better option also. I have discussed this with a few who have shown interest and it seems to suit the majority.
There will be fireworks Sunday night too
Look forward to further feed back. I will likely approach the moderators in the next week to change the title of this thread accordingly
regards
Dave

OK guys and gals, blokes and sheilas and anyone else I've left out ... the time approaches. Here is the plan.
This one is my first so will be a bit 'rough' and a serve as a basis to build bigger and better.
At this point in time I believe 043turning will be here with supplies and timber timber blanks
Jim said it would be too small, I will have further talks with Neil from Ubeaut to see if he wants to come or send any supplies up for those who may want them. With a possibility that 'may' be here it might work out for him to bring some Ubeaut stuff up if Neil does not come. That is just an idea and I have not confirmed it with any parties.
If the event has less than 40 people I will probably hold it at my house which is on 1500 m2. There are some areas under cover and a good lawn area.
If held at my place food will be BBQ, sandwiches and the like. A night at the chinese could be done and one night will be at the lake for fireworks for those interested.
Coffee and tea will be on tap and I will have a supply of bottled water and other drinks (donations for such appreciated)
Feel free to bring food to throw into the stockpile and drinks (I prefer no alcohol as we are working with tools, if you want to go down the pub or like in the evening that is up to each individual)
Accommodation available as per earlier posts. There may be room for some to bunk or camp here, there is free camping at the creek.
Partners and children welcome, the town pool is open during certain hours and there is a swimming hole down the creek. I have 3 young children so there are swings and trampoline here too.
What to bring
Smile Good attitude Tools Timber Portable shade leads and power boards
Any questions just ask

Dave, have you decided if this is only one day or two?
What happens for meals. Is there anywhere for breakfast? I guess lunch is no issue.
If two days how is the evening meal to be dealt with?

I believe Monday is the public holiday.
I'm expecting most will turn up Friday some time. Then we will have all day Saturday and Sunday. Sunday night is fire works and stuff going on down the lake. I think most will go there and there will be a range of take away.
Breakfast - for those staying at my house or who come early I will have a range of cereals, toast etc. Some may stay at a motel and choose to have breakfast there - up to them.
Lunch - there are a few takeaways and a bakery in walking distance. Again I will have bread and some limited supplies for sandwiches. If people let me know what they want for lunch I may look at having more onsite. BBQ facilities will be here also.
Tea
Friday - BBQ
Saturday - Chinese for those interested otherwise other take away or BBQ etc. I'm looking at seeing if the Chinese will put on an all you can eat so numbers for those interested would assist.
Sunday - at the lake, for any who do not wish to go to the lake self serve leftovers or other take away.
For this 1st event there will be no cover charge. Any donations monetary or otherwise will be appreciated but not demanded
Monday packing up at people's leisure breakfast available and no doubt lunch for anyone still here.
Ps. Thanks for bringing the lathe down for me Chris, I did not get to catch up with you at Brett's.

Hi Dave,
Put me down as a maybe. It is the last weekend of my holiday. If I get through everything I have planned in time I could well be looking for something to do for the long weekend before going back to work

Yes it is a go. Was just on the phone last night to repliconics aka Trevor. He is coming sat / sun as he has other responsibilities that can't afford him any more time than that.
I will update the list later today.
If anyone wants to bring along some portable shade or shade sale and ropes etc that would be good.

I may have to pull the pin on this. I have had a few scans and have to go into hospital on Tuesday for a day, nothing definite yet and I will know more later in the week.

Yes I did, If someone wants it let me know. My betting is I am not going at the moment which is disappointing. Back story is I complained of pain in my shoulders and as a side issue they found a foreign growth in my chest. It has gone no further than that at moment but I suspect I am going to be doing a lot of talking to doctors from this week on. They still haven't found out why the pain is in the shoulders, we'll get back to that when we sort out the chest issue.
