Ok, I know Australia is not New Zealand but it looks like you have a got a nice website over there. :U

I am increasingly getting into woodworking and garage has a few bits of old woodworking gear that needs work. Also, I have recently joined the New Zealand Vintage Machinery Club and they have a number of woodworking machines that need restoration.

I hope this forum will be able to help and given the active discussion that I started on a Matson metalworking lathe I am sure I will not be disappointed.

Yep, I plan on showing off the stuff that is worth showing off. We won't mention the projects that are only good as firewood! :U

We got off lightly with the earthquake. We are alive and our house is liveable. Some repairs have been done. The cracks in the walls and the jamming doors and the on-hold DIY projects are no big deal. We have a wooden weatherboard house. Most of them stood up quite well. Wood is good - it can flex but concrete can't!

Speaking of wood there should be a lot of it going spare around Christchurch since buildings are still being demolished or deconstructed. A lot of it is the sought-after rimu, a native timber that has a nice finish. It is from a slow growing, majestic tree that is fortunately no longer being logged. They take 500 years to reach maturity.

Rimu certainly is a beautiful timber Alan, love the colour and the straight grain and it always looks great when in used in furniture.
