Only in America - with rednecks like that, who needs enemies???
Speaking as a sporting shooter myself (target + feral animal control), just about any legitimate use of a firearm can be satisfied by a single shot rifle of the appropriate calibre, fitted with a 5-10 shot magazine. I completely support the level of background checks and controls we have here - in fact, I'd like to see police allowed to make random spot checks on registered weapons without having to make an appointment first..... (which they do - how absurd is that???).
The only real use for a close-quarters weapon like a pistol is police/security - I can't think of any other legitimate application where a (more accurate) rifle wouldn't be preferable. So why are there so may pistols out there, and featuring on the news so regularly? I know lots of them are smuggled in, but IMHO there are way too many licensed pistols in circulation (and therefore prone to getting nicked...).
As for semi-automatic weapons.....the kind of guy who needs a monster rapid firing gun to hit the side of a barn door is precisely the kind of person who shouldn't be allowed to play with guns. Who do these rambos think they are?????
I'm still hopeful that the NRA will out-stupid themselves enough to get tighter legislation though in the US.

Oh, c'mon! Everyone knows gun control doesn't work!
Why, just look at Canada, which has an even higher firearms per capita ratio than the US! If gun control worked, then Canada wouldn't have correspondingly more fire-arm related incidents than... Huh? What? It doesn't!?
Guess Canada is on Planet X too...

That video must be upsetting a few people somewhere because it's been removed from where I posted it and I've noticed it's been removed from a few other sites as well. I've looked through youtube and haven't found it yet, I had a friend link it on Vimeo and when I went to watch it the video had been removed. I guess that just goes to show how powerful the Gun Lobby is in America if they can influence that kind of control over the electronic media.

Guns are welcome but satire is not :(
I always thought freedom of speech was part of the constitution (or whatever they call it over there) but that is not as vigorously defended as the second amendment :o
Edit:
How can I download this one?

Skew, that's a mix of right and wrong. Maybe Canadians have more firearms per capita than in the United States. It looks that way because we can't hide anything. Second, you might want to look at crimes committed with hand guns, long guns and then make some comparisons.
Smith & Wesson admit that, on an annual basis they sell more pistols in Los Angeles county, California, than they do in all of Canada. So there.
In the past 15 or so years, I've had no trouble buying and selling shotguns but there are some paperwork hoops to jump through. Having suffered Shotgun Aquisition Syndrome for decades, I have weaned myself down to two: a 12 and a 20, both Russian Baikal. All the Americans, Europeans and South Americans are gone.
Pistols? Try to buy a pistol in Canada. Up front, honest and over the counter. Just try. I did a lot of ISU target shooting/paper punching. Every pistol was a long, drawn-out chore of a process. Never more than 10,000 rounds per year. In a bold move, I decided that I would shoot IHMSA Unlimited pistol class. . . . . .. months to get the gun across the border from the 'smith in Idaho. Not exactly the tool to rob a liquor store. 14" barrel, anatomical grip, full length 7mm/.308 single shot, bolt action. Every bit as accurate as they are powerful. Hard on the ears.

If it's this one: Cold Dead Hand with Jim Carrey from Jim Carrey, NickCorirossi, Charles Ingram, Funny Or Die, BoTown Sound, millsfx, Melissa Gould McNeely, and MattMazany (http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/0433b30576/cold-dead-hand-with-jim-carrey)
...it may not have been pulled down by the NRA, but by DCMA requests of the original hosting site (Funny Or Die) as they are a site that is very keen on, ahem, 'monetizing their content'.

Perhaps that's what you should have said then, and after you'd said that you could have qualified your statement with a justification. Otherwise they're just words on a screen without a context.

RV, I too had trouble getting the gist of Skew's reply, but I think that was a result of too much tongue is cheek making the words hard to understand. He knows more about Canada than you might think, having recently returned from spending 12 months there (and marrying a Canadian national).
China, I'm not quite sure what you meant either. I thought Mr B's post was pretty balanced, but I don't know if you think the laws are too soft or too hard when you say "midguided".

China - you're not one of those greenies who want pest and feral animals culled, but don't want them shot, and can't suggest any other humane way of doing the job??
Or are you upset that you can't get the semi-automatic weapon of your dreams??
Don't leave us all hanging, please elaborate.....

I'm just the oldest grandson of a homestead Canadian Farmer (1884). I have been shooting for less than 70 years. Only 50 years in competition. Less that 40 years membership in my local shooting club.
The deal here is, shooting & guns are a part of life. This isn't the city and no-one here gives a sweet rat's a$$. These things are like pencil & paper. Too ordinary to warrant any discussion. Gun dweebs "need" to talk calibre and loads. They can fill their boots. Around here, at 53N, the subject rarely ever comes up.
Now, that's possibly because of my track records as a target shooter. I hoped it would all die like my professional Biology Professor career.
Believe me, once retired, nobody gives a darn. I was worried that I might be concerned that I had defined myself by my career and the formal employment.
Yeah, I used to work. Big friggin' deal.

I am not a greenie far from it, I have owned firearms all my life, and have been politicly active in the fight for gun owner rights in this country, I take issue when people say there is no place for semi automatic firearms, there are many sporting events that use semi auto firearms IPSC for one, it is not about the need it is about what you choose to own. The simple fact is firearms do not kill or harm anything people do. Banning or restricting the type of firearm I can or can not own will not solve anything.

Sooo, if you are a member of a shooting club, what's the problem?
Do you resent that your weapons have to be registered?
You certainly do not need a shotgun or a rapid fire attack weapon for sports shooting neither do you need a handgun.
It is not the sane gun owners that are the problem, it is those who do not care about other people's safety who are.
Such as keeping the weapon where a young child can get hold of the weapon and, because the parent is irresponsible, thinks a gun is a toy.
As an example I will tell you about an American friend I had.
She kept a small loaded handgun in her handbag and told me she would not hesitate about using it if anyone came too close to her. She had had instructions to make sure she knew how to use it to kill. She was also racist so the implications were obvious.
One of her children could easily have got hold of that gun and with mum's outlook, that could also easily have ended in tragedy.
THAT IS INSANE.

Well, van Cleave is obviously not of the intellect that should be an advocate for anything, except perhaps higher intelligence. Maybe he should go into politics.
Apparently that was a comedy show, is that right? Sure am glad I haven't watched that show before, expecting that I might get a laugh.
Laugh? HA! I never thought I'd start.

Met plenty of australians that fit that description and a few that are much worse... Very thankful they can't get their grubby paws on any guns. The ironic thing about it though is getting the guns out of the hands of idiots here hasn't really brought the homicide rate down. In fact it didn't actually drop below the 1996 level for 7 years. I guess when someone here is determined to kill someone else they're not too fussed on whether they use hot lead or their bare hands...
