Pete, are you inserting a link to a video, or trying to upload it via 'Manage Attachments'?

If the latter, I don't think it's possible. Only links to existing videos already hosted on the web are acceptable as far as I can tell, added using the 'Insert Video' icon above the reply text box.

If I'm wrong, can someone please correct me?

Actually, I stand corrected, you should be able to, up to 47.6MB. I'll try myself now. It might take me a little while, though, first I have to convert from mp4 to wmv.

This is 45.33MB according to the file upload window, so it should work. (I'll delete it after this test):

No go - upload failed with a red exclamation mark. The upload progress bar got all the way to the end before the 'Upload Failed' icon was shown.

Pete, now that I know we can upload wmv files, I just uploaded a small, ~3MB, wmv file in my thread without problems. Maybe the size of your's is too large, despite what the upload help says.

Hi Hermit, I am trying to upload a video via the manage attachments just the same as if it were a pic, same process as far as I can see, but like you I get the same result, I didn't know there was a insert video button but will try that and see waht happens.

Just tried the insert video but it seems that is for sources outside the forum, I was trying to keep it in the forum as a first option, might have to split the vid up further to make it smaller again:?.

Pictures are much smaller than video, and get slimmed down by the software if they are too big ... video is a whole other beast I think.
The forums would already take up huge memory and bandwidth I guess.

It is easy to upload video to Vimeo - the only one I have used - and no doubt Youtube is probably just as easy.
Then you just use the video insert stamp above where you type in your post to enter the link.

Cheers,
Paul

Pete I've reported this thread for Admins attention as there seems to be a problem somewhere.

Paul, we should be able to directly upload wmv vids to the forums, up to 47.68MB, via 'Manage Attachments'.
I didn't think we were allowed, but we are. Handy. I uploaded a 'tap test' of my guitar body.

Pete, sorry if my first post was a bit misleading. Yes, the 'Insert Video' icon is only for vids hosted on another site. That's what led to my confusion - I hadn't noticed 'wmv' in the list of valid file types that can be uploaded via 'Manage Attachments'.
I'm sure the powers-that-be will sort it out now. My guess is that it's a file size issue.

Yes they were taking a long time to load

I will do the utube thing if all else fails
