View Full Version : Anyone going past Pat's place to Brett's in the Blue Mountains

NCArcher

(http://www.woodworkforums.com/members/62924-fencefurniture/)In another thread, some timber is travelling from Mapleman's to Sydney.
As the timber will be deposited at my place for a short time before it is picked up by Brett(FenceFurniture) and (posssibly) Adam(Ozhunter), I have an item south of Sydney that I need to get to Singo. i.e. get to Brett's place in Katoomba.
The item is a saw vice that I forgot to pick up from the BM GTG and is currently residing at Pat's place. I don't even know where Pat lives but I believe it to be towards the Gong. Towradgi ?
If anybody is going past Pat's and could move it a bit closer to the Blue Mountains it would be very much appreciated. I'll send a pm to Pat to let him know about this post.
Hopfully the poor little vice will find it's way home. There is another problem though. Pat had to wrestle Adam for the vice at the GTG. While Pat is pretty big and could hold his own against Adam, if the vice makes it this far I'm not too sure how well I will fare against Adam. He's a big boy :D
If anyone can help I will be eternally grateful.

Tony is you sidekick (physic) I can possibly get it a bit closer going to Kiama Saturday all being well and can call past Pat's on way home, he's slack scared if he goes to Kiama he'll spend money his biggest temptation being Boutique Timbers.

Pat if and when you read this let me know whats happening??

Tony from my place to Bret's good question then again Paul aka Wood Nut is coming down maybe just maybe he might play a roll.

Depends on how soon you want need it.

No hurry. Just thought it was a good opportunity with Brett heading here.
If you pick it up from Pat and pass it on to Paul it will find it's way here eventually.
If you don't get the chance, no problem. 'The One Vice' wants to be found. It's trying to return to it's master.

Skew ChiDAMN!!

If worst comes to worst, if you can get it to Seven Hills in Sydney, Skew's_Gal can bring it up here to Katoomba on her way home from work...

If Pat can get it to NZ carvers place. he could bring it to Wagga next week and I could bring it home and then give it to a friend of mine who is going to Adelaide.

From there he can give it to a mate of mine who does the Adelaide- Darwin run every week.

He could drop it off at the Alice Springs or Katherine depot where the bloke doing the Alice to Rocky run could take it and give it another bloke doing the Cairns to Sydney run. If he dropped it off at Taree to Peter (Ozartisan), I am sure that one of his guests could drop it off to you on their way back to Sydney.

Easy-peasy, dunno what the prob is.:D

It's a saw vice. Only small. 2kgs at most. Would probably sqeeze into a shoe box.... with a bit sticking out the end where you ripped it trying to sqeeze it in.

:roflmao: Now I gotta say, I'm all for beating APost at their own game, and I have been known to go to what may be called extraordinary lengths, for no particular advantage, in pursuit of this.

However, has anyone worked out the cost of posting said item? S'bout $11-12 to anywhere in Oz, even Singleton.

Apart from that, please don't let me spoil your fun. I only wished I seen the thread earlier (or paid attention). Very entertaining.

You two seem to have missed the "free" part of the procedure. Besides this IS fun. And to be honest $12 is nearly 3x the price I paid for the vice. :p
A good test of the system too. I may need to purchase things from Sydney (or Perth:U)occasionally and it's nice to know I have a specialist courier network in place, ready to spring into action at a moments notice.
Chris i'll send you a pm. And I'll put my hand up to cover the Singleton leg of your new saw

Chris Parks

Jarrah, did someone say Jarrah? It might be possible.......

FenceFurniture
8th March 2013, 03:42 PM
How many kilos per cubic metre is Jarrah?

Chris Parks
8th March 2013, 03:48 PM
Damned if I know but then we didn't do it that way. I had a wire cage parked at PWS and they filled it with all the offcuts and then I had it brought over via Oz Post. It is a little known system but then I work for them. The only limit is the net weight of the timber can't exceed 500kg. The price is per cage BTW not what is in it.

FenceFurniture
8th March 2013, 03:49 PM
A metre high pallet of Jarrah (1100x1100x1000) weighing 850 kilos would be about $450 freight coming from Perth to Villawood, and would take about 8-9 days. That's not too bad actually, about 53 cents per kilo.

Just sayin'.........

Chris Parks
8th March 2013, 03:51 PM
It think it cost us about $250 but don't quote me on it.

So as to get the thread back on track am I picking this up from Ray on Sunday and then to Skews girl or NZCarver or Sawdust maker ?
alternatively I could give it to Groeneaj to send via Darwin.
another alternative would be to send it to Hawthorne, California to anyone with a Shipito account, takers? Pmcgee perhaps?

On to another matter, Pat and I have known each other for some period now thanks to this forum. It was only just this trip we/I were able to visit and enter the cave of the Yellow Peril. The large beast that chews wood was sleeping but evidence of past meals lay sprawled around the floor walls and even large gnored and gnashed bits were brought out to remind us of its dangers.

I was allowed to view the wood storage area but was full Patted down before leaving.

Thanks for the hospitality Pat good to see you, meet the toe nibblers.

Just got back from a couple of days camping, and very enjoyable it was too, so was unable to monitor the forum around the clock to check on the progress of the item.
Very relieved to hear that Ray has, once again, executed a flawless pick up and is now preparing for the hand off to Paul.
I will send a self destructing tape to Skew's Girl with mission objective and final instructions. I hope she will choose to accept this mission.

Nah, I bought it off Pat. It got put aside with some other gear and when I forgot to grab it when we left Pat was kind enough to pick it up for me, after wrestling Adam for it. I asked Pat to hang onto it for me till I could arrange to get it home. Now look, it's half way there. :D And it can be exchanged for lengths of Tallowood suitable for making a bench. :p
