Staining floor boards

Hu guys,

I have just ripped out the carpets in all the rooms and I am going to start sanding. The timber is probably pine or oak and I'd like to stain it in a jarrah sort of colour to match the doors frames, furnitures, etc....

any idea about what type of stain I could use?
is there a product out there which is stain+polyurethane?
do I have to stain first then apply the polyurethane?
any tips and hints are welcome

I've been trying to do the same thing. Here are a few thoughts:

1. Black japan - 1 coat. Nice finish but needs sealing prior to top coating with polyurethane, which means more work

2. Wattyl floor stain - they have a jarrah shade and it is apparently more forgiving to apply than traditional stains.

3. Cabot's CFP. I spoke to them and they suggested adding up to 10% stain to the CFP. The last coat needs to be unstained. I tried it on an offcut and it looks like a piece of cypress painted in a brown translucent paint - not good.

I'm probably leaning towards the wattyl floor stain.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

BTW also asked cabots about CFP hardener, the chemist explained that it just catalyses the reaction making the finish harder sooner, but the maximum hardness of the CFP finish is unchanged....
