My outlook express contains the the following message (screen printed message) from my virus program Trend micro security.

To be honest I don't know how to open the attachment in text.

I would like to know who or what is sending the message, can anyone please tell me how to proceed.

Also can I just click delete and it goes away?

If its a sus file then you can delete it. If you want to open it as a text file, do so using notepad. Im a Mac user but if my memory serves me well highlight the file icon, right click and there should be a "open with/using" option. Select Notepad as the program to open the file with.

As for finding out who has sent you the file....check the header of the email. Bear in mind however that many emails with virus attachments have "munged" return addresses..ie the return address has been faked and isnt the address of the person the mail has come from.

For this reason chasing up the person who sent you the mail is a waste of time....just delete the mail and make sure yout machine is protected with decent anti virus software.

Thanks for the info,
I took your advice and decided no to find out who sent the mail and deleted same.

I have since worked out where it came from I have a cousin( missionary) in Nigeria and he suffers from hackers etc. so I have not been able to open his post over the last 6 months.
He goes to the British Embassy to send mail but this still does not stop the problem.

If it is, maybe a swift application of MFKL would help? Who knows? It could lead to a new slogan:-

Not only adds a lustre
To your cluster
But also clears your knackers
Of any trace of hackers!

It's gotta be a winner!

Ok, this is an official hi-jack, my box of numbers is sick. I can't post by hitting "post reply" or "Quote". When I do get to the post I can't type anything in the text box??. I'm posting this by the "Quick Reply" as I can't open a new thread...well it opens but I can't type in the box...weird. Where's a real Geek when I need one. I don't know where to start on this one.

Cheers

Darn it. We nearly kept him out. Now all we have to do is close the loophole :D :D

Try sending a bottle of red wine to ... with a bunch of long stem roses ... and a box of choccies. :D
If that doesn't work, send him a rude PM :D :D

Cheers

Do you have any sort of spyware buster?

If not, get a free copy of Spybot V1.3 & install it & follow the instructions.

If this doesn't work, send me $1527.55 & I'll be there, right after the funds clear. :D

Do a google search for Spybot V1.3, download it, install it & follow the prompts.
Once it has cleaned everything up, try again & let me know if you still have the problem.

Cliff, my mistake I meant Adaware and Pest Patrol but I brain scanned you last night and down loaded Microsoft's spyware attempt and it cleaned out a bit more stuff. Still no change. I think IE is Kaput. I set everything to defaults and removed every program I could including Java but still no change. I'm on SWMBO's machine at the moment.

I can't help thinking this started with the latest round of MS updates (whatever they were).

Anymore bright ideas (running spybot now)

Cheers

vsquizz

Wundows is all up to date if thats what you mean??, an spybot was updated before I ran it so should be OK. I still don't get it?? all I did last night apart from running Bill's spyware thingy (which found a trojan) was defrag everything and clean up the registry. I removed some invalid uninstallers and shortcuts etc, just normally things I do once a month but anyway...its working.

I think I'm heading for a reload (ouch)

Cheers

Cliff, I went to Amazon again this morning and they were quite happy with me today. No bug warning, accepted my password etc.

Do you think they were putting the frighteners on me yesterday:rolleyes:
and perhaps trying to steer me to some security software?

Anyway thanks for assistance and I shall download the spybot as suggested.

If you want to clean out ALL the crud from your machine use this.

http://cleanup.stevengould.org/

Beware, it cleans out ALL your cookies too.
But it works..
I use it from time to time.
