Hello,
I am new to this formum, and feel I am quite experienced in construction techniques, but feel I would love to attend something like a weekend course on finishing.

What I am particularly keen to learn is "what to use and when and why", and then to understand how to apply.

If anyone knows of such a course or something similar please let me know.

Thanks
Jim

Welcome aboard Jim

Check out Holmesglen TAFE. They used to run hobby courses on various aspects of woodworking including finishing.

I can highly recommend our benevolent dictator's own publication "A Polishers Handbook". Plenty of info on everything to do with finishing. Available from here (http://www.ubeaut.com.au/book.html).

Of course. Very naughty of me not to mention that.:)

Thanks for your input, I will check out Holmesglen. I have seen the book mentioned, I guess I was looking for practical hands on - the way i learn best.

Also Melbourne School of Fine Woodworking in Box Hill Melbourne School of Fine Woodworking - Home (http://www.msfw.org.au)

Hands on learning is best but then Neil's book will complement any course that you do.

Has anyone else had problems buying this guide. I get a server error every time I try to pay.

Sigh...
