This thread is relevant (http://www.woodworkforums.com/f43/scabs-have-hit-ground-running-literally-165572/), only in that it's to do with the BM (and amusing).

I think it will be an entertaining day, which for a while, before it dawned that I had mis-read my roster, I thought I would be able to attend. I thought I would be able to combine it with a trip to the Hunter and was looking forward to meeting people I only knew by repute, PMs and telephone conversations.

Well it's a beautiful morning up here. Forecast is for possible showers, maybe a late thunderstorm. I think it'll be very similar to yesterday, which had the same forecast, but the showers didn't happen (just a few spots and a bit of thunder - enough to send Nursie scuttling under the house, and Skew under the tarp).
Looking forward to seeing y'all.

Tamworth (Chambezio)
Hunter (NCArcher, Woodnut...was there another?)
Gold Cost (Dai Sensei)
Wollongong or similar (Chris Parks, Pat)
and all the way from Seventh Avenue (Skew & Girl)

I will start by firstly thanking Lola and Brett for their hospitality. The salad was absolutely fantastic. :2tsup:
What a great day. I think I might have been the only one that took the train. :? I followed the direction as specified by Brett very precise as always.
As I was coming close to Brett house I recognised one vehicle that was parked on the street and knew that Dai Sensei was already there and I was just as shocked to find there. Of course in my casual calm self I said hello and continued to greet the rest of the group that was already there, then I came across Grumpy John, now that was a surprised. :o Not so Grumpy in my opinion.

Sorry about the multiple posts - I keep remembering things to mention.
For those who didn't get the info, the tray of saws and marking gauges out on the bench was the IanW collection. He also made all the handles on the files and rasps.
And you know those two cakes I promised......ah, I ah, remembered them at about 6pm when the tidying up was happening:B Forgot to put out the potato crisps, salad seeds, and a couple of other things as well. I did remember to put the olives out, but not a single one eaten - prolly because I had a lid on top to stop them drying out.
The weather for the day was a mixed bunch. Mostly about 27 deg and sunny, then a little bit of rain which turned into quite substantial hail (up to 12mm). Looking at the hail out the front - it was crazy, going in all directions. 45 deg from the left and right, vertical, and all at the same time. Never seen it do that before.
And last (I think), a real big thanks from me to Lola for all the back-room work she did today. THANKS HONEY!

Thanks Brett and Lola for hosting a good day. Good to put faces to names.
There where olives and I saw the salad seeds. The balaclava was very nice, as was the little bit of salad I had just so I didn't offend the hosts.

Brett, I left my 2 marking gauges and my IanW saws behind. I'll catch you up in the next week or two.
Well, yes, you left the IanW saws behind, but the word "my" is quite incorrect in that sentence. Keep trying though, it can't hurt.
Now there were a few drops of rain, which very quickly turned to hail. At the first few drops I bolted to the tools trolley and put it under the tarp, and then charged around with everybody else getting stuff inside/undercover. Ummm, prolly best to think of this next part as adding character and patina. In my haste I thought that the top shelf was all but dry (just the odd drop on a few of my tools). What I didn't see was that there were a few drops on the Colen Clenton boxes, and I certainly didn't know that his stamp is in water soluble ink:C.
Wait - before you :fit: or :bigcry:, I have a couple of lids up in the loft which I can check for size, but failing that I can ask him to send down a new lid for them when he sends my mortise gauge down (which sounds like a spectacular piece of stripy Ebony:;).
Oh, and you know how Christos says "no pic - didn't happen"? Well I didn't take a pic, but I can.

...then I came across Grumpy John, now that was a surprised. :o Not so Grumpy in my opinion.
Now, now. We all know that couldn't have been Grumpy... after all, he had to take a sicky from work 'cos of his bad back and couldn't possibly have made the trip all the way up from Vic!

Looks like all had a great day.
Morning here spent sanding and then due to inclement weather indoors.
It being Chinese New Year inspired LOML to spend the day preping a banquet of 8 different dishes for dinner sort of thought some of those who may pass south would have called in.
Oh and yes there is photos to prove it. :p

I'm sure there will be all sorts of new projects being started after an inspirational day.:2tsup:

Tell you what - we got the weather right by the skin of our teeth. Today is miserable - foggy & wet, and cool of course. Even when it's not raining the trees still splat onto the head.

Thanks to everyone for a very pleasant day with a special thanks to Brett and Lola for all of their hard work to organise such an event.
It was interesting to find that other like minded people live close by. Phillip (metalman)

Thanks so much to Brett and Lola for a fantastic day.
I nearly took a photo of the workshop but would have been too scared to show it to Margaret -IMMACULATE. Neither PacMan nor I could find any sawdust:?, even in the cracks in the floorboard. A credit to you Brett, assuming you actually work in it!
A great day all round and several familiar faces from the day before at my place - NOW you all know why there were no early photos following 's surprise visit, along with a hitchhiker he picked up along the way - shame about the back.
It was great to put a few more faces to the names. A totally eclectic mix with a passionate and common interest - tea, coffee and ######## - and I nearly forgot the woodworking etc.
I would also like to thank for his speech and kind words. A fantastic weekend, although I didn't get back to Clarro' until about 9:15 last night, feeling just a little weary. Did get to touch NCArcher's workbench 'though - a great job. Thanks for the trip Tony.
Cheers,
Paul

Cheers Paul. Haven't done a whole bunch of woodworking in the last few months, but really it's a credit to the ducting system - simple, cheap, quick, and effective. I'm striving to catch as much as possible at the source. That's also why I don't have many tools hanging on the walls - love the convenience, but loves catching dust. Every now and then I blow out the Barn with compressed air (but haven't for quite a while). I also vac the floor pretty regularly, and the Festool hard floor head is a beauty.

Loved the photos but unfortunately no names to go with the faces. I recognize the good looking interstaters such as Skew and his girl, Dai Sensei, and Grumpy John.
I've also managed to work out who Brett and Lola are but the rest are just faces of a rogues gallery. :U

I also would like to thank Brett and the lovely Lola for their very generous hospitality and the effort they put in to ensure everyone had a good time :2tsup::2tsup::2tsup:. Also thank you to all who expressed concern about my back, I should be able to resume normal duties on Thursday .
Even though my interests have strayed from the work shop to the camera lens I still enjoy and appreciate getting to perve at other woodies sheds and equipment. I must say Brett that you have made the most of a smallish shed, did you ever serve time in a submarine? Some of your safety gear has me worried though.

That's a great bunch of candids GJ! The knack of not being seen whilst taking pics leads to great candids - I had no idea you'd taken that pic of Fletty and myself discussing the rasp. What's more you were very close to us, and you'd have to think that I'm pretty camera aware. Excellent work!
When you came and asked me what the third down on the right was, I gave you instructions on where to find them. Were there any left in the box?
You didn't ask me what "Dustyovski" was, so either you worked it out or it was too hard. A mate and I have used that term for a blower brush for the last 30 years.
Deer Skin gloves are pretty expensive, so......
Btw, was Ozhunter sitting down, or was Lola standing on a box?

I wasn't that close Brett, the photo's been cropped pretty severly.

I don't recall, could be severe lens distortion :o.

Great shots. If your woodworking is/was half as good as your photography, it would make you at least accomplished and that's on the "off" days :2tsup: .

Ooooh! It's lucky those gloves are not any longer in the arm as they look suspiciously like those I used to pregnancy test cattle, particularly being the left hand too  .
