Hi all - this is my first post on Renovate Forum. Prior to this I've been actively reading posts - many informative, some very entertaining - thank you!

I've recently bought a 1950's weatherboard house in Altona - and starting to get some jobs done. I'm new to Melbourne so also building up my tradies contacts. It feels like I'm starting afresh again trying to work out when I'm being ripped off, who is genuine, etc - so any advice is appreciated.

In one of my bedrooms, I would like to remove the doubled sided sash windows (together almost 2metres wide) and replace with double Stable doors. Stable Doors seem to be popular in the UK - here are some links:
Castle Conservatories | Windows, Doors, Conservatories Northampton (http://www.castleconservatoriesltd.co.uk/portfolio_doors_cs1.php)
Wooden Doors, External Doors, Internal Doors, French Doors, Door Suppliers, Colchester, Essex, Prestige Wooden Doors | External Stable Doors | External Stable 4 Light Door Unglazed (http://www.prestigewoodendoors.co.uk/product-info/87/2/1528/external-stable-4-light-door-unglazed-/)
Residential Stable Doors | A & A Windows Direct Ltd | Windows, Doors & Conservatory Installers (http://www.aawindows.co.uk/residential-stable-doors/)

But, can't seem to find someone who is interested in building them for me (or quoting on them). So far I've been told they can't be done so consider bi-folds or French doors. I don't want bi-folds as it wouldn't be in character with the house. Stable doors would be great for the look I'm trying to achieve.

As I have to deal with coastal winds, I was thinking that UPVC could be the best option (ie better than timber). But this isn't a material / product we really embrace in Australia (whereas it is very popular in Europe / UK).

Would it be crazy considering buying these in from the UK? With the Aussie Dollar at the moment this might be a cost effective option, especially if I can't source them in Australia.

Any ideas / advice on where to source stable doors in Melbourne (preferably inner-West) or if I am considering the right option - would be great.

thanks
